Beat Writer Posts: 193 Joined: 23 Jan 2008 | Most games encourage the gamer to view the credits by not saving until after they have finished rolling. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1202 Joined: 13 Dec 2008 | If the game saves before the credits then just goes to the main menu after i skip them. (see kingdom hearts 2) |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 624 Joined: 8 Dec 2008 | I always watch the credits, it gives me time to do a little yes-I-completed-the-game victory dance. And you never know what interesting things might happen during/after the credits. I like it when there's a hidden surprise at the end. (Gears of War 2 is a recent example of this.) |
Press Junketeer Posts: 383 Joined: 12 Sep 2008 | I generally like to let the credits run. I may not really pay attention to them sometimes, but I don't see any reason to skip them. They tend to have funky music in them anyway,so that's another incentive. Unless it's in something like Lego Star Wars, when they run every time you finish a chapter. Then they get skipped. |

God words cannot describe how much i hated that. And how much I hated myself when i realized they were skippable. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 938 Joined: 9 Nov 2008 | A video game had to earn my respect before getting me to watch the credits. If it hasn't been good enough, I'll probably skip it / ignore it to get cup of tea or something. That said, I'm a sucker for achievements so I'd probably endure the credits of a bad game to get it. Hopefully I haven't bought a bad game to begin with though. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1318 Joined: 19 Dec 2008 | I let the credits run the first time I finish the game, so I can feel like I beat every single person on that long list :p Seriously though, I tend to endure them for two reasons: 1. The people who made the game I just played through to the end deserve to have their names seen (not sure I can explain it better). 2. The secret suprise endings, fanservice, previews, etc. I'm always a bit sad when the credits end and I just get shipped back to main menu :( |

Paperboy Posts: 44 Joined: 6 Jan 2009 | It adds nothing to the game, they are just rewarding you for putting up with their ego. Credits should be an incentive themselves to sit through. Banjo Kazooie:N&B used humorous quips from Kazooie, Gear of War has the cole train rap and Viva Pinata2 had interactive pinata you could bash with a stick to release the credits. The idea for getting an achievement for doing nothing irritates me. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 407 Joined: 7 May 2008 | If I were rewarded for watching the credits, I still wouldn't watch them. I'd just let them roll while I, say for example, cook dinner; that's how I get unlockables for playing x amount of hours. It's a pointless achievement that really detracts from the meaning of the word. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1726 Joined: 20 Mar 2008 | Mass Effect's credits are awesome just because I love the song so much. Halo 3's credits had some pretty funny stuff in them if you take the time to read them. Also, Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, and Adam Baldwin all did voices in it! Wow! (I guess I know what tv show the guys at Bungie were fans of!) |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2368 Joined: 14 Sep 2008 | I always watch the credits in the MGS games because the songs are great (with 2 being my favourite ) and at the end there is always a interesting conversation. |

It's more a matter of respect and, in my view, manners. That argument could apply to Remembrance Day or any sad national remembrance. Do you refuse to do a minutes silence because you don't know those who died in the line of duty? These people have made a game that you enjoyed and put a lot of time, effort and care into, the least you could do is watch their names flicker in front of your face for a fraction of a second. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1025 Joined: 27 Aug 2008 | i usually skip them when its possible, but with fear of it not saving i let them play through if they are unskippable... but i always watched the MGS series's credits for the plot thickening conversation at the end lol |
Press Junketeer Posts: 489 Joined: 9 Dec 2008 | Credits are a good time to go for a victory cigarette... and usually (but less and less so with newer, more self-indulgent games) you get back inside just in time for the wrap-up easter egg. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 773 Joined: 15 Nov 2008 | I usually let the credits roll if it was a good game, just so I can let the feeling of beating the game sink in, especially in great games like Fallout 3 and Mass Effect.
I literally feel asleep waiting for those credits to finish so I could get the achievement. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1299 Joined: 27 Mar 2008 | I always watch the credits, there might be candy at the end. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1331 Joined: 22 Oct 2008 | Credits are there because it's tradition; in a film, they're there to help people get noticed and advance their careers. It works like that in the games industry, but there is no real reason to have their names there, as there is almost always a 'view credits' button on the main menu. I do like them being there though, as I get vague feeling of gratitude and superiority after I finish the game. |

There is a massive difference between giving your life in defence of something and being the localization manager for Ubisoft though. The previous poster has a point in that you will not remember or care about the names anyways so why watch? I barely even stay for an Easter Egg, I remember turning off Halo 3's even though i knew there was something at the end |

I also hear that the "cast game" on the set of Firefly was Halo 2, so I think the admiration was mutual. Fillion and Tudyk are known to have roles in the upcoming Halo 3: ODST game too. One reason I stick through the credits is to see the voice cast listing, and another is for the possibility that there'll be a special post-credit scene. Skipping the credits can mean missing fun or important stuff: |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1044 Joined: 13 Dec 2008 | I always tend to sit through the credits now, also in the hope that there may be some for your patiencelittle secret afterwards to make it worth the wait. I suppose it's not that different than when you go and see a film at the cinema and are considering getting up and leaving or staying in your seat until the very end. It's good when you are occasionally rewarded for your patience (reference the Iron Man movie for example :P)! |
Copy Clerk Posts: 112 Joined: 9 Aug 2008 | Portal (in my opinion) had the single greatest credit sequence I've ever seen. Super Smash Brothers had a good ending sequence to. (Shoot the names) Other then that the only way I would watch the rolling credits was if I really liked the game. Like in MGS 4 (Hideo Kojima was the Voice of God, who knew?) or Halo 3. |
Paperboy Posts: 30 Joined: 24 Dec 2008 | I always watch credits just incase something happens at the end of them. But for all the times i do it, something only gets given back 1 in 10 sodding times. Just finished CoDWAW a few hours ago, waited for the credits to fuck off and was rewarded with Nazi Zombies. wtf?! |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1207 Joined: 17 Oct 2008 | Theres no point, you wouldnt watch it a the end unless theres a movie you couldnt re-watch later at the end, for an achievement most would just leave the xbox on and do something else. If you want people to sit through credits do it the DMC4 way, letting you kill more things while they roll infront of you with the incentive of something at the end if you manage the challange. |

It's a matter of manners, as I said. These people have worked long and hard, usually over several years to make a game. Why behave as if its materialized out of thin air? |

I finally got around to finishing Assassin's creed (after putting it off for a month) and after the 15min long credits (most of it being voice actors and team for every language the game was produced for). I got an achievement. Sure it wasn't related to watching the whole credits without turning the console off but it got me thinking. I think there should be achievements for watching the whole credits after the game ends (exceptions might be games like Assassin's Creed where there is still a bit to do after credits [storyline wise not flag collecting]). It could be good initiative to watch the credits instead of turning the console off once they start rolling.
What do you think?
