Awww, you stole my words. But sometimes it's just fun to beat the crap out of 100s of enemy soldiers. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1231 Joined: 16 Dec 2008 | Dynasty warriors has created a Gundam game which is alright at first but so god damn repetitive, and they wont lower the price on it either, at my local video game retailer, a previously played version is still 49.99$ Canadian, thats bull, this game should be 9.99 at most, and theres a second one coming now too, wtf i cant even start with all the problems of the fist game and now they are making a second, geez, way to TRY and milk fanboys |

I don't think it needs fixed as it's not broken, but an upgrade would be nice... |

But the gra..... Well the version I play is samurai warriors 2 for the original xbox, Since It's chipped and all. But I do get your point. I will probably get that gundam version (I'm anime/manga addict first class) but that's when it becomes cheap enough to justify it. I have a saying I like, "You occasionally have to play crap/mediocre games to appreciate the excellent ones" |

At least Mario was interesting at some point. DW has never been interesting. I've got a buddy who is a huge fan of these games, so I have played some of them, and I'm utterly mystified by the appeal. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 404 Joined: 18 Sep 2008 | Never. Despite the fact that they are all the exact same fucking game released every five or six months, the hardcore fanbase still shambles down to the nearest game store each time to buy the newest one like the mindless zombies they are. Last time I played Dynasty Warriors was DW4. After that, I stopped caring...Mostly because that was the point when they started spamming ten versions of each installment every four weeks before moving on to the next one...which was just the last one with slightly better graphics and a slightly longer draw distance. Not only does Koei spam Dynasty Warriors like crazy, but while doing this they are also producing Samurai Warriors, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, and the Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors crossover...Which are all just $60 mods for Dynasty Warriors. Really, I think Koei is honestly incapable of producing anything else that doesn't feature the same gameplay that has been recycled over and over again for going on a decade now.* *If I offended any Dynasty Warriors fans in this rant then I can say that I'm truly, deeply, 100%...Completely indifferent. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1611 Joined: 25 Jun 2008 | Considering the Dynasty Warriors games are based on real Chinese history and real characters, there isn't really a lot of scope for change, story wise. It's like saying, when are WW2 games going to change. Why does it always have to be the Americans and Allies fighting the Germans and Japanese? Couldn't they make a WW2 where the Americans and Japanese are fighting the British and Germans in India? I'm a fan of the series and have bought every instalment, and I like the way Koei update the games, as they learn to push the capabilities of the platform more and more. They're really not going to take to many liberties with history and change the story though, because that would be kind of stupid. Anyway, they're only release another game every year, not every 5 or six moths as some people see it, which for fans, is better than resting on their laurels and not updating the games. You can argue that each instalment is just a $60 mod of the same game, but how else would they release mods on the PS2 other than make it a new game? It's not like you can download mods and patches and save it on a 8MB memory card. They do make more than the Dynasty Warriors games, but most are release in Japan, and only the Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, Warriors Orochi, Bladestorm, and Kessen get released over here. |

just to clarify, im not saying I hate all games with multiple sequels, and while I agree that the mario franchise has certainly grown a little unoriginal, the difference is that its not the same game over and over. super mario world is not the same as mario 64, and 64 has differences from sunshine and galaxy. my issue with dynasty warriors is that they continue to remake the exact same game. same characters, storyline, gameplay, even the button combinations dont change all that much. |

ok, alot of valid points here. thanks for the input. I admit that im fairly unfamiliar with koei and their other games, and I can certainly understand your point about the inability to ad patches to older consoles. I am however somewhat familiar with the romance of the three kingdoms (the chinese epic the games are based on) and I dont really buy the whole historical accuracy argument. other than the names of the characters and locations, the series has very little to do with the story (which itself is often considered as much a fiction as a history) The weaponry, armor, technology, and many other aspects were invented entirely for the game, and the personality of many of the characters bears only a passing resemblence to their historicle forbears. not to mention that many of the characters were invented purely for the game. finally id like to adress the point you made about how they release a game every year. It seems to me that you've proved my point. the fact that it takes them only a year to make another game (while also devoting time to other series as you mentioned) seems a clear indication that most of the content is just copied and pasted from the last one. Bungie has taken almost two and a half years to make recon, and its not even a full size game. Gears of War has taken nearly three for its sequel. Tim Schaefer hasnt even finished making his first game for the current generation of consoles. I think one could argue that given the scope and size of todays gaming industry, any mainstream game that can be completed and sold in a single year has got to be flawed on a critical level. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 602 Joined: 8 May 2008 | Here's a little tidbit of information: The Chinese who are knowledgeable about history as well as this series hate the game. Or at least the newest version, in which they have some katana-wielding dude. Specifically they hate that Guan Yu has a beard in the game, although he only had it at the very end of his life before he got beheaded. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 62 Joined: 10 Sep 2008 | I'd like to point out Dynasty Warriors Orochi (and the same game with a "2" pasted at the end of it) as something that more WW2 games need to do. By which I mean, lets make the americans all supermans, and the germans into incredible hulks or something. Mess things up! It can be fun... And they'd throw cars instead of shooting guns... x3 Also, they needa learn to STOP improving graphics until they can find a way to do so without sacrificing the gameplay. DW6 on the PS2? Forget it. Enemies blink in and out of existence to prevent slowdowns, ends up being unplayable. Multiplayer is like this for ALL OF THEM, every single DW game has horrible multiplayer graphics overloads and that just kills the whole series for me. |
Paperboy Posts: 13 Joined: 7 Jan 2009 | I admit I love the Dynasty Warriors games. And yes I agree that they have been getting a bit repetitive, yet I keep buying the new ones anyway just to see any special differences. It was actually nice to see different weapons on DW6 though, changed the game up a bit for me even though the objectives were still pretty much the same. |

Paperboy Posts: 25 Joined: 26 Dec 2008 | I've bought a couple of DW games, and every time it's pretty entertaining, but not for very long. And that's the problem, too repetetive. Although I think KOEI has a lot going with their one vs. many games, and I love one vs. many. Samurai Warriors was an interesting change of pace. But if you wanna try a KOEI game like this thats not DW or SW, I recommend Bladestorm, set in the Hundred Years War. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 59 Joined: 1 Jan 2009 | I have no idea why people throw all the hate at Dynasty Warriors for being 'the same'. Why not hate sports games? Wow...guess what, you play football in Madden '09...the exact same as Madden '08. Why not hate Metal Gear? Wow...a spy sneaking around a base trying to stop...get this, a Mech that can launch nukes. Dynasty Warriors offers solid 3rd person action where you get to run around and murder thousands of soldiers. While doing it, you fight bosses all over the place, search for new and better weapons, find mounts, level up the mounts, level up your character. The games usually have about 40+ characters to play with, while some are clones, they do have pretty cool and unique stuff for most of them. Does it get repetitive? Sure, it does. But so does Diablo II. But when you are having repetitive fun, who cares? Any ways, I am glad the Dynasty Warrior games keep getting made and I'm glad that they keep making their way out of Japan as well. I'm looking forward to the 2nd Gundam Musou game which will hopefully make it out of Japan this year. And maybe there'll be a Dynasty Warriors 7 announcement later this year. That would be awesome. |

The problem with this is that the history is only based on the shus point of view as it was recorded by them. There is little record of wu and wei forces and history except for pictures and shus story. |

Is it just me, or does it seem like every game in this series is pretty much the same? Sure the graphics get a new facelift, and the armor and weapons continue to become more and more ridiculous, but for the life of me, I cant recall the last time this series actually did something new with the franchise. its the same stories, the same gameplay, same frickin musou mode... not that there's anything wrong with any of it. I just wish theyd do something original for a change.
anyway, my friend has the latest for the PS3, but whenever I play it, it feels prettymuch the same as the last one I played, and the one before that. "oh look, here comes Lu Bu!" or "Check it out, they lit the ships on fire... again!" I swear if I have to watch that oath in the garden cut scene another time I am going to cry.
So, agree? Disagree? Hate my guts?
Go.
