Story, style, as long as I don't have to sit down and listen to some boring drama-fest. Granted I do like a lot of serious games, Battlefield 2142, Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Counterstrike, but humourous games like Red Alert and Portal get all of my respect. And welcome to the Escapist :) |

I loved RPGs for this reason, although as of late the action/RPG blends have numbed me to the slower pace of turn-based RPGs. Beyond that, i like enjoyable, unique characters and comedic situations, which saddens me since there's very little in the way of pure slapstick humor in games anymore; everything has to be some huge, epic plot, usually where the world's in danger, or some jazz. I suppose the games that best incorporate these features are Radiata Stories, Star Ocean 2, and Brave Fencer Musashi, although i also liked Final Fantasy 7, Valkyrie Profile, Grandia 2, and a few other games i can't remember off the top of my head. |

I was tempted to suggest this, but I was sure the thread would be locked for duplicate topic, so I abstained. |

No one is more deserving of a rest, and all the effort in the world would have gone to waste until... well... let's just say your hour has come again. The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world. So wake up, Mister Huwie...wake up and... smell the ashes. Hello, and welcome to the escapist. It's safer here. |

Hello all! My name is Huwie. I've lurked this site for a few months, and decided to jump into the populace. I'd like to take this topic to introduce myself and bring up an open ended topic that allows everyone to express themselves so I can get to know them.
The topic I bring to you all is: "What makes a good game?" this is a general question that means all genres of games, if you like to get specific feel free to do so. I'm going to get mine out of the way.
Aside from the obvious tools that make a good game (Good sound, graphics, controls, etc.). I love a challenge in games. I need to be pressed up against a wall. Games these days like Prince of Persia (4), and Fable 2 where you can't die, just seem to cheap. I felt like my hand was being held, and Petter M. was wispering in my ear "Now now, its okay. Just get up and you'll be fine." Where Pop was linear as the first three. Those games were simply big let downs, while solid games, just too easy for me.
I feel that story isn't as important as most things, but it gives game a nice touch. The most important thing in a game to me is having fun and new content to play with. Mirror's Edge was a good example of that, while the game wasn't the "best". It did have something new to toy with, I felt like I was playing Prince of Persia from a first person perspective. Something else that gives me a good feeling about a game is fast pace. Nothing gets you into a game like a fast pace.
How about the rest of you?
