Command and Conquer Generals 2

For some reason I've had the urge to play Generals again recently. I've been a CnC fan since the start of the series, and I've always felt like Generals was the best game. Granted, they're all good games IMO, but I always had more fun with Generals.

There are supposed to be 2 big announcements for the Command and Conquer series this year. Seeing as how the FPS was canceled, I'm going to go ahead and guess that the announcements will be Generals 2, and an expansion for Red Alert 3.

At least I hope that Generals 2 will be announced. Does anyone else want to see a sequel?

I would love Generals 2. I still love Generals as one of my favorite RTS's, and I would be so happy if they made a new one.

Absolutely not, and for reasons already known.

The C&C series is being moneymilked to death (you know, just like EVERY OTHER franchise out there) and the Generals games raised uncalled-for controversy about it glorifying the Iraq war and was also banned in China (and censored in Germany).

I do!

I love Generals, though not so much the rest of the series... Too much micromanagement.

But I would absolutely love a second Generals.

Generals sucks to mod as it will crash at startup if something is wrong so you don't know what you did wrong... Iwould love a seqel if
1. I could run it
2. They keep the original sides (maybe adding Europe)
3. They make it easier to mod (so I can add my own side)

Ahh, Generals. Terrorism has never been more fun. "Something to the masses!" - SCUD Launcher.

Okay, let's pretend I didn't say that.

Wait, they cancelled the FPS? I mean, I never played the first C&C FPS but I was looking forward to this one. I never really liked Generals though, I thought it was a bit rubbish. And sorry but I HOPE it's not going to be confirmed. :P

Zero Hour, in my opinion is the pinnacle of Command and Conquer. Was the one i've had most fun with skirmishing, though it had some balance issues.

Loved GLA Demo General, did me.

Had a 7 hour 2v2 on a LAN once, China Tank + USA Laser vs USA Laser + GLA Demo. We actually pretty much had peace talks by the end. Though some of our other massive LAN games have been ended by the negotiator, ie the infamous 'Mismatch' Error.

JUST FREAKING RESYNC IT DAMNIT.

Well, it's a given that the franchise will be milked until its teets are prickly little black nubs. I've accepted that. It's made by EA now, after all. And while I usually dislike EA, they haven't let me down with CnC. Actually, I'd buy the CnC games even if they have limited installs. And I HATE limited installs. So, as long as they milk it, I'll probably keep lapping it up like a good dog.

Controversy. Ah yes...no matter how great the game is, it's inevitable that someone will get offended if there's a unit with a bomb strapped to his chest running head first into my nuclear power plant. Honestly though, I don't consider it to be glorifying the Iraq war just because your're fighting terrorists. Was there controversy over Call of Duty 4 glorifying the Iraq war? Or am I missing something?

Ahh, if only Generals had had a good game engine, then it would have been awesome. As it was, it was just good fun. Shockwave mod saved it for me, making all the factions far more distinct and awesome, and adding three more balanced factions. I had the urge to get it out again not that long ago, but I resisted, heh. I want a good RTS, and for that I'm holding out for SCII and Dawn of War 2. All else to me is just made better in retrospect by nostalgia. IT'S ALL A LIE D:

i forget. was this the one where you could be american, chinese or terrorist? Because that game was awesomeness in a box. I was always the terrorist and you would never see dem car bombs coming.

I don't really care if they make Generals 2.

Generals is my least favourite C&C game. I just find it dull and bland, and never quite understood why so many people like it so much. The first time I played it I was pretty much suprised at how unfun it was and despite repeated attempts to play it and get into it, I never could...

It really did look like it was shaping up to be an awesome game. I'm still not sure why EA canceled it. Maybe they decided that a CnC shooter didn't have the potential for endless sequels and expansions, like the RTS games do.

Guess what? It were can celled because the game didn't meet the standards*... Yeah, you heard right. The game didn't meet EAs standards.
I for one is happy to never play a shooter even the milkers deemed unworthy, I'm a C&C fan by the way.

*By standard I mean that the game probably sucked so much it would ruin C&C forever.

I enjoyed Generals but I did think that it was slightly racist (Oooh, look at me, I used a buzz word!) if only in the stereotypes of the characters. I mean some of the accents for the Chinese were pretty off I think. The 'Story' didn't seem that bad to me. Just the accents, take the workers for the GLA them saying things like:
'Please don't hurt me'
there was something they said when they got the shoes upgrade that seemed dodgy too.

The game was released at about the time the Iraq war officially commenced. Something about where the Chinese campaigns were taking place in Germany offended people so releases were delayed in Germany. Then after that the game was completely revamped and censored with cyborgs (the hateful Terrorist unit was replaced with a drone). In China it was banned altogether for smearing the People's Liberation Army of China's image, most notably due to the forced Chinese accents and portrayed abuse of nukes in addition to the player having to destroy key Chinese targets to sabotage the GLA (or some shit like that).

Yeah I remember thinking the censorship in Germany was a little silly. China, on the other hand, I never got. Sure, their accents sound a little funny, but China is portrayed as a protagonist in the game. The American accents are a little funny too. In one of the China missions, an American bomber helps out. After the job is done the American pilot says in an overdone accent, "Catch ya on the flip side!"

Still, I don't see how it glorify the Iraq war because the game released at the time the war commenced. Maybe I'm just thick?
