I'm usually skeptical of most wiki things, but its not like I or most people on this thread have a better reason |

Well wiki doesn't lie about that and if you really are skeptical of it, just go watch the Final Fantasy retrospective on gametrailers, everything is there. |
Paperboy Posts: 22 Joined: 15 Oct 2008 | Why are you so bothered? Its not like Square forces you to buy their games when they are released. It feels like your complaining for the sake of it. |

This is what i was afraid of. I didnt know what better way to phrase it, (i'm in Aus, i haven't slept in about 2 days and it's 3 am over here) but i was just wondering what would happen if Square devoted the same amount of attention to it's other games as it does the Final Fantasy ones. |

Whoa whoa whoa...are you telling me that you thought Chrono Trigger sucked? |
Copy Clerk Posts: 79 Joined: 25 Dec 2008 |
I'm sorry, having never played it, i can't say ye or nay for how good chrono trigger is, although i have been trying to get my hands on it. I may be a little hasty with some of my comments, and from what i have heard, the chrono series, trigger or cross, are good. i am actually looking forward to getting them, and i hope all of you know, generally when i make a retarded comment like that its cos im not thinking clearly |

Heard it from the guys at Square themselves on a G4 special on Final Fantasy. |

If you ever had a decent look at the history of Final Fantasy you'd know that it was originally suppose to be the last game Squaresoft ever made but it's popularity kept the company from going under. Also I don't think Final Fantasy should die, Just give Final Fantasy back to Mistwalker's Hironobu Sakaguchi because while he worked on Final Fantasy(FF1-10, not sure about the spin-offs)the games were better and had excellent stories. |

You do know that the "Final" in Final Fantasy ment that was squares swan song game right? Meaning it was the final game square was gonna make, but the game was a success and they made more Final Fantasy games. |

Technically Chrono Trigger isn't a Final Fantasy spin-off, it's a stand alone game(which had a sequel called Chrono Cross if you didn't know)and yes Final Fantasy spin-off(like FF:Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo Dungeon)were pretty bad and marketed at extreme fan boys/girls. |

You do know why its named "Final Fantasy" right?, Square Enix was about to go bankrupt and they had 1 last chance to create a game before going out of buisness, and no one thought they would make it, therefore they named their last game "Final Fantasy", cause it was the companys last hope. |

Sorry to DP but I guess Galuf's death didn't mean anything then? Sure he wasn't a young hot girl, but he was the warrior of dawn and light and broke out of EX-Deaths grip and he kept fighting even though his HP hit zero. Aeris just was praying for holy and was stabbed in the back, to me it was funny but Galif fought to the end and died with his grandchild watching him die. And after that he sent down his power of the crystals to her. I'm not bashing FF7 but I hate it when FF7 fan boys don't realize that death was not something new. Or when they don't seem to realize how FF7 mirrors 6 (which some how mirrors 2 but that's just me). First example of the mirror thing, FF6 had a group of rebels called "The Returners" to take down a power hungry group (cough kinda like "The Wild Roses" in F2), and FF7 had "AVALANCHE"(sp) which was to take down a power hungry group. Kefka went from well respected man of the military to mad man from an experiment, Sephiroth went from well respected man of the military to mad man when he found out he is the result of an experiment. I know that was off topic and all but I just had to say something about the death thing. |

That's not entirely true, and either way it's something you can only say in hindsight. For starters, Galuf was in an FF game that didn't reach Western shores until two years after Aerith kicked the bucket. From the FF's I had played before then, the only character deaths I had seen were the multitude of cheesy "sacrifices" in FFIV that bore no meaning after they had all been Deus Ex Machina'D back to life, and General Leo in FFVI (THAT one did piss me off). But more importantly, you know what makes Aerith so different? She was murdered. Right before your eyes. Everyone else before her either gave up their lives willingly or fought back, but Aerith didn't get any such say. Also it wasn't cheesy or overdone like, say, watching Cid blow himself up as he falls through a giant chasm; it was quick, effortless, and left you in a state of shock. A lasting shock, it would seem, since we're still talking about it ten years later. But I don't wanna downtalk Galuf's sacrifice either. That was epic win. Still fighting even with 0 HP? Unheard of. And awesome. It's just a very, very different kind of dead than what Aerith got. Anyway, there'll be a "final" Final Fantasy when I lose interest in it. If that happens, then they should be worried. |

I love Final Fantasy, has to be one of the greatest series I've ever played in my opinion, but yes, X-2 was a huge disappointment. |

Dragonquest wasn't all that good. :P |

I can agree with the Aerith thing, but it just seemed meh to me. I guess the shock is great to Galuf's grand daughter seeing how she is a kid and cloud is a SOLIDER (not doing that for effect) so I figure Galuf's is the more effecting. Sadly I lost interest after X-2, and I do see what you mean with thetime gap of games. But some FF7 fan boys don't wanna admit it, over even play older ones. I have lots of friends like that, some didn't even see kefka's concept art but said he wore pink and was a homosexual clown. |

Actually Licenses are explained as being the affect of living under Arcadian rule, after all they aren't going to let everyone equip the most powerful weapons and rebel, especially since they are occupying a pissed off country. All you said is personal preference, I think 12 is better than every buggering game before it, with only 6's story surpassing it, I have played every Final Fantasy, it sucked so much time out of my life. I also loved 9, your complaints are tiny, Learning skills from equipment is no different from the billion of other games like it, it's similar to learning magic from Materia. Learning Magic from Espers. nothing new. It's story was awesome and a love story that was well written. although I agree about not counting 11 as a numbered, from what I've seen and heard it's actually a good experience. Still Difference of opinion. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 846 Joined: 5 Jul 2008 | Final Fantasy was created when the company was about to die, hence the name, but the game saved the company, so there have been all these sequels. Personally, I think Square will start making crap FF's and the franchise will wither and die. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1554 Joined: 10 Sep 2008 | I believe it's a lot easier to just say Final Fantasy then it is to say heroic adventure: chronicles of the forsaken as read in the sacred tome of injustice, see it could be worse it could be like a lot of JRPG's where they make a simple beginning title and add some crazy subtitle that barely makes any sense whatsoever. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2900 Joined: 3 Jan 2008 | Ya know a lot of people are saying "Square is just milking FF" but then you look at there releases like CT DS, Last Remnant, The World Ends with You, Dragon Quest. I feel the need to remind people like many other companies they have more than one dev team. I dunno, this is what pisses me off, I don't care if people hate the games I like, it's that they can't seem to get basic facts straight, so much that there opinion becomes one full of holes and fail. Even maybe they are Milking FF7, but hardly the others. |

What was wrong with XII, I wanna hear this one, do go on. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2940 Joined: 22 Jun 2008 | Hmmm...Well, after a good six of so games that were pure gold, they've been allowed their fair share of crap. |

I think your point is legit. I mean, I think Final Fantasy X was the best one i've ever played, it was also the first Final Fantasy game i'd played so i guess that says alot. But since X-2, i feel like the other games went downhill very quickly, which is a real shame seeing as Final Fantasy has inspired so many people and fuelled their imaginations with it's brilliant storytelling, the beautiful graphics (for the console at that time i know that they could be greatly critisised now but you understand what I mean) and the intriguing battles (when you discount all the inbetweeny battles that make you sick to death of the music playing at the time and the turn-taking mode). But then they introduced FF 12 and I thought that the whole game disappointed me. |

Considering FF 7 wasn't all that good. I blame it on the 3Dness of it. :-\ |
Paperboy Posts: 23 Joined: 7 Jan 2009 | I'm not saying that its fact Orion, in my previous post, i distinctly said " TO ME it started to degrade around FF8...." the words, to me, means that i am stating my opinon and personal preference. I understand you like the final fantasy games, and everyone has their favorite games. I am not a reviewer nor do i pay for square enix to make games, so I highly doubt they will lose sleep knowing I'm not a huge fan anymore. I respect your opinon Orion, but i have to ask: since you feel obligated to defend and attempt to ridicule someone based on their personal preferences and opinon on a game, a person who's opinon has nothing no impact on the game whatsoever i might add, how does it feel to be a Fanboy? |

I was waiting for someone to say this . . . haha. Ironic story, isn't it? I wasn't totally thrilled with XII and if XIII is the same result, I'll consider X as my last final fantasy. |

Although i cannot boast that i haven't played all in that list, i have played Final Fantasy 1-7,8, 10, 10-2 and 12 as well as children of mana, secret of mana, final fantasy tactics, final fantasy tactics advance, the bouncer, kindom hearts(1, 2 and COM)... so i have a few square releases under my belt, and im just saying apart from maybe the kingdom hearts series, the other games just dont seem to have that zest that the final fantasy ones do.
