The old games were great at the time but looking back they're very slow and clunky compared to games now, though the newer pokemon games aren't that great either. Once you've "Caught them all" once or twice, you've pretty much done all there is to do, I found myself so bored about an or two into the new one that I couldn't even finish it. Good for nostalgia, bad for gameplay. |

(I had the Blue Version). Needless to say, that was impossible, but good times.... I haven't played a Pokemon since then though. I like to think I played the game before it become such a fad for the kiddies. Of course I could just be trying to justify it to myself. |

The GBA Pokemon games were the best and they should have stopped making the games after Fire Red and Leaf Green. Also one thing I hate about the old Pokemon games is why wasn't the Pokemon Gengar made a Dark/Ghost? Every read the description for Gengar? Yes Gengar was my favourite Pokemon and I got rid of all my Pokemon games because of Diamond and Pearl because I knew if I kept them, I'd buy the next ones... |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 3301 Joined: 1 Nov 2007 | I found myself playing Pokemon again about a month ago. It was...urhh... Once the Nostalgia wore off your left with a simple shitty little RPG. It extremely basic and extremely slow. It was a great starting RPG, I don't fault it for that. As an actual game its crap. |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 580 Joined: 25 Apr 2008 | And now they're coming out with "Pokemon Opal" or something like that... I can still remember 1998, when the world was much easier to understand, and when Pokemon ruled my life. I sometimes look back on those days with a smile. Nostalgia is just that for me. Looking back on a simpler time when your only major concern was getting your Pokemon team to level 100 so you could fight with them in Pokemon Stadium for the N64... |

Muckraker Posts: 330 Joined: 4 Sep 2008 | I still maintain that this was one of the best hand held games of all time. the amount of customization you could achieve with your party made the game extremely replayable. I must have created dozens of characters over the years, all with their own strategies and leanings. in many ways, it reminds me of an mmorpg, in terms of the custimization and world exploring aspects. |
Paperboy Posts: 22 Joined: 4 Jan 2009 | I still go back and play Silver and Gold from time to time, not to mention the originals. I'm mostly just sad that my first Cartridge died a while back and I had to get a replacement. That was kind of embarrassing at the store, especially since I casually mentioned it was for myself and quite possibly came off looking like a pedophile. So, dignity -1, entertainment +1. |

Still play the game, i dont watch the show or movies anymore, and i also dont collect the cards. But everything was well worth it as a kid, all the cards and toys and what not, i remember the first one i beat was silver, which is still my most favorite, and since i was only 6 i actually started to tear up lol. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 57 Joined: 24 Dec 2008 | I remember occassionaly picking up the old Pokemon Blue and plugging it in for a song... I always found it highly enjoyable, odd considering it's antiquity. Then again, sometimes you can derive more pleasure from a couple of sticks and stones than a super computer which requires a manual the size of a bible in size sixteen font... |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 788 Joined: 28 Jun 2008 | I'd like to say I play PKMN games for the nostalgia, seeing as the first batch of games came out when I was in high school... but I don't. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1165 Joined: 13 Aug 2008 | connecting nostalgia to a series that is STILL GOING is kind of redundant, but then again the orginal games were pretty good, it's just a shame that i couldn't bring myself to play them again... If they had some sort of interesting twist on the game idea, then maybe i'd be drawn back, but currently i'm in no hurry to rush back to them yet. |

Truth, and nothing but, co op action at it's best, and best beat em up ever. Also I stopped after Pokemon Gold and Silver, and that's when they should have ended it. |

Ooh yes! I have nothing with these new pokémon, but the old 151 ones are great! And damn, I sound like an old fart right now. |

I do agree that Gold and Silver were the best, and it's stupid that they haven't re-made them. However, I'm going to probably keep buying the series due to the memories of my childhood. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1165 Joined: 13 Aug 2008 | my ultimate line up in the orignal 151? Sandslash (love it!) now to compare it to my current team on Pearl... We have: I still prefer my original 150 team, ive or take a few of the newer ones, i does so love my Banette. [Edit] Oh and Monster Rancher deserves a Pokemonesque title. |

You do realize that the original Poke'mon cartridges (yes back from the days pluto was a planet) were built for 151 pokemon? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1324 Joined: 3 Sep 2008 | The original pokemon games were amazing but Diamond and the remakes Leaf green and fire red have surpased them Mewtwo |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2901 Joined: 3 Jan 2008 | Oh wow nostalgia is running rampantly stupid in this thread. So when the games improve upon the battle formulas, as well as being a DEEP game thank you very much (I mean Gameplay wise) People chuck a fit. Please learn that just because you liked the first 150 and then couldn't be bothered with the rest, doesn't mean more is worse. There have been some great designs! Garchomp!!! Infernape! Blaziken! I have played every game they have released and it's only gotten better, with new favorites each generation. As for my current team? Infernape! I don't NEED Legendaries, I picked who I liked, and raised them as Tykebombs! |

Regarding looking back on the simpler time. That just hit me in the face, I really miss those times, I hadn't thought about them in a long time. |

Wait what do you mean a 'Simpler time' in japan ion was Red Green and Blue then they released Yellow. We allways released two games followed by a third. don't be so stupid selective memory much? even discounting yellow, blue was green and Red with a few swapped pokemon and updated graphics. |

Beat Writer Posts: 198 Joined: 13 Aug 2008 | Listen you little kids, if it's not the first 150, I don't want to hear about it! WTF is a Infernape and why did I first read it is as "Infern-rape"? Pokemon was the first GBC game I ever got and I was addicted. But now the franchise has been oversaturated with utter garbage I can't even look at it anymore. "Gotta Catch'em All"? try "Gotta Name'em All". As for all you people who say Reb/Blue was the best... you're wrong. Yellow was the best. You had a Pikachu that not only followed you around, but WORE A BUCKET ON HIS HEAD WHEN YOU WENT FISHING!!! Come on people (besides you got all 3 elemental types eventually). I remember I ligitimately got Pikachu up to level 81 when I finally beat that game (there is no MISSINGNO. rare candy code in yellow) I bought the newest GBA version of pokemon I could find for nostalgia... It was terrible. There was some overly complicated crap with something called "poke blocks" and "pokemon competitions" and item questing to nearly zelda-esque proportions! What was wrong with simple battleing and needing 1 guy who new CUT? Instead I needed 1 who new CUT and Rock Smash and Swim and Tidalwave and blah dee blah dee blah! New pokemon is killing the franchise. I feel old now. |

Warning - Long back story ahead!
Alright, so recently I bought myself a Nintendo DS, after my sister getting one for Christmas and seeing how much fun she was having.
So I bought one, and Final Fantasy IV.
Now that was my first mistake. Final Fantasy IV MAY have gotten an A- from 1UP, but apparently good scores don't mean the game is actually good.
After being utterly discusted with myself (and the game) I decided to get a game that I knew would be a winner. Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hour Glass. That was actually a really good game...
Anyway, after finishing that, I found my old Pokemon GBA game, and stuck it in my DS.
Amazingly enough, this game that I thought was exclusivley for small children (a stereotype stuck on after the anime cartoon was aired), was actually a GREAT game!
Anyone else play this game recently? If you have a copy lying around, I highly recomend checking it out.
For the nolstalgia if nothing else.
