Sounds pretty cool. Honestly, I saw all of this except CS2 coming. I've never really been into CS, but then I wasn't into Half life until the Orange Box, so I'll welcome it.
Completely agree. I never got into that PC crowd but now its on 360 I love those type of games.
The only way this could be better is if it had L4D in it.
Its going to be a long time before they go back into Counterstrike if ever. I asked Chet Faliszek from Valve back in September about the possibility of a new Counterstrike or Day of Defeat and he basically said its not on the radar and laughed it off commenting on they had done a small update for DOD.
I really think Episode 3 should be DLC. Portal 2 could be on it's own, or whatever, but I feel like they should just release episode 3 as an expansion kind of deal, like the Oblivion expansions.
Same here. The Orange Box was my first taste of Half-Life, and I can't wait for more.
maybe it was misinformation? Oh well, I want to find out what's on the Borealis, and a second portal can't hurt. but another CS would be ballin' outrageous.
Could be but it makes sense. Valve has the Left 4 Dead Updates/DLC to do, Team Fortress 2 updates, HL2: EP3 and anything else like Portal. Thats alot of work for 150+ guys, so i don't think a Counterstrike sequel is a top priority. I just hope it doesn't take nearly 10 years like TF2.
Seconded. | |
if they did i`d buy it on the spot and play it for a VERY long time
I hope this comes out and soon!
I can't see them releasing a new standalone counterstrike game on the source egine.
Meh. I'll still be just getting the Episode by itself.
that sounds great. | |
Yeah I think L4D would be a better multiplayer component, even if it isn't truly a multiplayer only game
Counter-Strike deosn't work for a console, but I guess if they are bundling it with other things it would be the multiplayer aspect.
What would you suggest? (No intent to be aggressive if intepreted as such ^^)
Unfortunately anyone who likes portal is going to be hugely disappointed by portal 2. There would way too much hype and portal would collapse under the pressure. Especially the fact that one of portals biggest strong points was this it was a new idea. But CS2... that just gives me shivers. (the good kind)
Well the next orange box would need a multiplayer aspect, it cant be TF2 or L4D so I was just saying it is likely to be counter-strike-something.
I hate CS so much. Why do I have to wait 3 minutes to play when I die?
Doesn't seem like an awful idea, but I kinda wanna shell out the cash for the complete collection thing on steam...amg such a good offer.
Agreed, the other stuff just doesn't interest me at all. Sure having another stab at Portal might be fun, but to me that game was noval for what it was when it was released and I've just cooled off the entire concept. Perhaps they should create a new FPS Puzzle game? I don't know, all I know is that I want to play and complete the HL-2 Episode Trilogy.
Because in America, A baby that becomes a mercenary is born every three minutes, duh!
In that regard, L4D is so much better. The fact that you respawn in 20 seconds while playing as a zombie is great.
Wow. Counter-Strike 2? I didn't even know they were making that! And Portal 2...even though i hate the feeling it's going to be massively over-hyped. Then again, it's made by Valve. Ep.3. Please. Come out now. Must...buy...
There not | |
I'm still hoping for a TF3
Sorry man, but considering the 10 year gap between the original Team Fortress and Team Fortress 2, I doubt Team Fortress 3 will be coming out anytime soon...
I'd buy that for a dollar! Or for 50-60 euro, which it would probably cost here. Sounds like a great deal in any case. I hope it happens.
To make you try your best not to die. It creates extra tension beyond feeling bad about dying and letting your team down you're also put into the penalty box. The thing falls flat with a bunch of newbies or people who don't care about teamwork around though. I love the CoD4 fights with this enabled, suddenly everybody is on their guard.
I'd mused with a few friends last year that VALVE should release Half-Life 2: Episode 3, Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead together in one package, a la The Orange Box (which we thought was a great deal, what with 5 games for the price of 1, and also introduced us console gamers to the Half-Life series). It's a shame that I won't get Left 4 Dead in the fashion, but still, anything like the sequel to The Orange Box gets my support.
Troll fail. | |
I understand how the no respawn aspect works, and thankfully in CS it's not like COD4 which results in the spawn points being spammed with rockets, grenades, and 40mm grenades fired from rifles. However, long spawn times don't work for a regular team-deathmatch or a lot of other things. Some people do enjoy the 'everyone dies a million billion times' style of COD4 deathmatch or headquarters/other deathmatch heavy objective gametypes. (Which I prefer over Team Deathmatch because it reduces the random corner camping and places it with objective camping.)
To clarify things: Valve have stated that The Orange Box was them essentially taking advantage of an opportunity. They were working on three games at once (Team Fortress 2, Portal and Episode Two), and figured that they would release them along with a couple of previous titles due to the fact that they were all nearing release for the same time slot. Think of it as a gift to their players and community, not the norm. They have stated that if in the future they have more than one title ready to release at the same point, they will go ahead and do another similar package, but if Episode Three is ready and their next multiplayer game and/or Portal is still in development, they won't delay one just so they can get them all out at the same time.

I've been looking around and I found a source that indicates that there may well be an Orange Box '2', comprised of three games (so far):
Half-Life 2: Episode 3
Counter-Strike 2
Portal 2
While Gabe Newell doesn't really see CS2 being packaged with other games, rather being a standalone game, here's to hoping that such a package does come out!
What do you guys think?

EDIT: What would you like to see in the theoretical second Orange Box?
