Gone Gonzo Posts: 2445 Joined: 18 Sep 2008 | While i generally agree, gir, that the big names each generation only tend to retain dominance for a generation or two-- atari, nintendo, then sega, then sony, now nintendo again (im sure we can come up with a more accurate timeline)-- has there ever really been a time that nintendo DIDN'T dominate the handheld market? Oh, and my GBA still plays my tetris game that came with my original gameboy I received in 1988 ish... like im going to buy someone elses handheld. hah as long as it still plays side scrolling metroid games and that damn tetris cartridge im sold. |

They realize that it's hard enough to compete in the console market (they just can't seem to get out of that second-place rut). Plus, they're also competing in/dominating the home PC market. It would be foolish for them to try and compete in three different markets, despite Microsoft's vast funds. Trying to support too many consoles/systems will result in a loss of profit and the release of terrible titles (which was what did Sega in). If Microsoft has any sense, they'll leave failing at the handheld market to Sony. |

Firstly, Thank you. Secondly, It is Very True that Nintendo has always truly Dominated the hand-held compartment. Game boy, Game boy pocket, Game boy color, Game boy advance, Game boy SP, Game boy DS, Game boy DS Lite.... My god one more and they can start they're own football team! |

What numbers gave you that information? This christmas season showed something like a 100% increase in wii sales compared to the same time in the previous year... everyone got a bump this year but as much as we all love sony there are as many ps3s out there now as there were wii's in 2007 http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?weekly=1 or http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=Wii®1=All&cons2=PS3®2=All&cons3=X360®3=All&start=39110&end=39817&weekly=1 for ~2 years approx |

God awful, but the concept was nice you need to be a classical pianist to have the ablity to get your fingures in the right place, this feature is only really good for games with simpiler controlls |

The XBP (Xbox Portable) would feature an astounding 20 minutes of gameplay before overheating, incorporate a microphone for instant douchebaggery, and best of all, feature "Xbox LIVE - Sorta," which would involve tethering yourself to an actual utility pole in order to get a good connection. Package it with Halo 3.5: Arbiter Boogaloo and we've got a hot seller, baby! |

Dont forget "Pert Music Note" (RPG fans will get this reference.) |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 558 Joined: 29 Oct 2008 | It does'nt need a gimmick it would turn out to be a huge one rolled into a vaguley blackberry shaped pustrule that would be as popular as an N-gage strapped to a faulty lawn mower |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 571 Joined: 22 Apr 2008 | With the handheld market as it is now, it'll be hard for MS to launch a competing product. I don't see it happening any time soon, especially since the Zune failed so hard as well. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2158 Joined: 2 Aug 2006 | I see Eggo beat me to mentioning the Windows Mobile. I wonder if differentiating a handheld from an iPhone clone is necessary. The iPhone does have a lot of games out for it, after all, but it's no DS. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 383 Joined: 18 Jan 2008 | I always wanted to ask, what portable system a Halo game will come to, The DS will have below average graphics, the PSP is sony territory and (if you can call it a game system) the i-phone is just as bad as the PSP. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1013 Joined: 8 Jan 2009 | Halo and Gears. I doubt it will have a gimmick though and if it does, I will be so very confused. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 52 Joined: 8 Jan 2009 | Trust me knowing Microsoft their going to start rounding together MILLIONS of indie developers to try and make a bunch of portable "Braids" but ultimately fail. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3310 Joined: 10 Oct 2008 | It's gimmick would be mini-RRoD. That and Blue Screen of Death. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 52 Joined: 8 Jan 2009 | Could you guys stop mentioning RRoD we've all established that already, think of something else XD |

Beat Writer Posts: 150 Joined: 16 Dec 2008 | They annouce this along time ago, since like 2006. Micsoft has been developing one for a good while now. They're calling it xbox portable, it suposed to play original xbox games. I think they're having trouble with the size and the amount of battry drainage it takes up. http://editorials.teamxbox.com/xbox/1664/Xbox-Portable-Explored/p1/ |
Copy Clerk Posts: 52 Joined: 8 Jan 2009 | It clearly says "rumor." Handhelds are never meant to play console games, STOP DREAMING. Unless of course they create remakes. |

This is a chart using the size of the device to show relative sales. (i wish it included psp, but i've only seen one person use a psp, ever.)

Microsoft knows this, but I doubt they manage to turn out anything fun to compete in a handheld market. It will just be a zune with extra buttons, targeted at the people who don't even play handhelds.
