Halo xxx, Resident Evil 5 and Guitar Hero Metallica. That's it for me.

Whatever game my friend, who I shall call 'A', claims will be the greatest game of the year. Seriously, this guy is like the touch of death to videogames. I swear the decline of Final Fantasy, Tomb Raider, Halo, Fable and many others is down to him taking an interest in the series.

i perdict the genereic fps someone will make which takes all the crap bits out of several titles and makes a game from them :)

Killzone 2?

i agree killzone was massively over hyped and it ended been just another fail fps in the long run, i am hoping that it will have improved massivly with the second one.

I admit to never liking Killzone the first time around; many elements of the control system were royally fucked up. Sniping was one of them; you need four arms and six fingers per hand to use the bastard Sniper Rifle!

However, the Multiplayer mode was VERY fun, and these days that's all that seems to matter. For this simple reason alone, Killzone 2 WILL be the best FP2 ever; no matter how shit it's single-player mode may be, it'll have a Multiplayer mode that is "Halo 3 but better", and thus it shall be the first game in history to be given one-hundred-and-eight-squidgillion our of One Hundred.

Sarcasm may be present in the above.

The next Lego game. Not implying that the majority of us expect it to be good, but for those who do this will be the biggest disappointment of their lives.

Also I have a feeling Fallout 4 might not make the cut. It'll be like pokemon; it's better in almost every way, but it's somehow no longer as fun.

It will be revealed that sticking Halo on the box doesn't make a console RTS anything less than a gigantic waste of time for everyone involved.

They're making console RPGs suck less more and more as they do it. (Admittedly, it's hard)

The battle for Middle Earth II wasn't all that bad, and the voice command in Tom Clancy works pretty well.

Yeah, might be StarCraft 2. But I still have hope.

Thats clearly going to happen, one of the best RTS's with nostalga?!
Now that's a hard act to follow.

That's certainly true, and I read somewhere that one of the Blizzard guys said he wanted to make StarCraft 2 a game that his mother could play, which makes me very worried... But like I said, I still have hope. You never know. But yeah, it will probably be another DOOM 3.

I'll jump in with the obvious 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, which I think is slated for 2009. I could be wrong, and if so I'll just tuck that away for the 'Big disappointments of 2010' thread.

But wait, don't you have to expect it to be any good at all for it to disappoint you? :P
I'm gunna go with Half Life 2: Episode 3, mostly because hopes are so epically high for that game that they could make a great game and still fall far short of what we're expecting.

The biggest disapointment of '09 will be NMH2 not releasing until '10.

Other than that it'll probably be Heavy Rain - destined to be all show and no go.

Everything starring a mute or super-tough uber-soldier as protagonist. I'm so damn tired of them!

my attempt
starcraft 2 just wont live up to its predicessor

What is concerning to me as a former StarCraft enthusiast is that Starcraft 2 will be actually split up into 3 games, and all of them will have full MSRB price probably - if not even more just because Blizzard CAN charge $50 or $60 for each game. (You heard it here first at The Escapist)

Not only do you need to buy 3 games to have access to all races, you also need to pay actual money to play the game online not much unlike Xbox Live.

Living up to its predecessor or not - the marketing revolving Starcraft II is just vomit inducing for PC gamers. I mean it's one thing that we're getting litterally fucked over by the console industry with crappy ports followed by another crappy port followed by a terrible port. It's another thing when something we are used to being free for the past 30 years is now being charged money for.
Oh wait, I forgot, MicroSoft already started with Games for Windows Live almost 2 years ago charging people to play games online.

Ugh... This is making me sick

This is so extremely wrong (im member of one of the biggest german starcraft fansites)

its not split, in the 1st game there are all races, the other two ones are just expansions
but you can only play the terran campaign with the initial release, you need the other releases for the other campaings

and also b.net 2.0 is free, they were just thinking about mciropayments, like for a bigger friendlist, custom avatars etc.

It's also wrong in the belief that you must buy all three games to play. If you want to complete the very long single players (apparently) you do. But for multiplayer i heard that that each pack will contain the necessary information to skirmish/play online without the need for the other two.

You are so wrong that I almost feel bad for you.

You have access to all three races in skirmish/multiplayer no matter if you own 1, 2, or all 3 parts of Starcraft II. The difference is that each separate part contains the single player missions for the faction of choice. Blizzard did this so that they could create much longer campaigns for single player, and they didn't want to end up delaying the release because...well, you know how long it takes Blizzard to make games...

And you will not need to pay money to play it online. Where did you get that into your head? Battle.net has been, is, and always will be completely and utterly free.

Saw: The Videogame.
I love the Saw movies, and of course most movie games suck, and this is going to be a multiplatform game that will be coming out late October 2009.
I just don't quite understand what the gameplay would be like, so I wouldn't mind checking it out, but I just know it's going to be a disappoint; I hope they prove me wrong.

Diablo 3 ... it'll get all complicated and MMORPG-like. It was always the solo-music in background, kill 3 hour game, rather than a commitment.

Don't think it will be a market failure. People will buy it before they realise is sucks. It looks a bit like Hellgate in terms of complicated MMORPG rubbish, where's Flagship studies and NamcoBandai now? Oh yeah, EPIC FAIL.

Anyone who has ever played Demonstone will know exactly what I am talking about. Avoid this game no matter what the damn reviewers say.

the new HALO game looks like it will dissapoint me, there is no reason to make a new expansion for a game that was so so for there last 2 games.

I didn't realise anyone was expecting anything from Halo Wars. Mine is HALO: ODST which, if HALO 3 is anything to go by, will be shit.

Capslock warrior!

I'll wager this turns into one of the big turkeys of 2009. It is way too similiar to Demonstone or one of the KUF games to succeed.

Perhaps discovering Heavy Duty was canceled would be my biggest disappointment of 2009.

Halo Recon looks to have great potential to be completely different to the standard Halo franchise, with perhaps more squad based, low level Rainbow 6-ish style gameplay as you take on the role of an orbital drop shock troop, stuck in a desolate, destroyed, enemy occupied city, guided by what appears to be an AI on the verge or rampancy. I mean, that's potentially the setting for one of my dream games, in all honesty.

So yeah, Halo 3 Recon, guaranteed disappointment. Though lets be honest, it's more likely a 2015 release than a 2009.

Halo Wars however I expect to be a steaming pile of shite dressed up in a shiny suit, so that's pretty likely to disappoint me. Excuse the language, I guess...

PS - Recon's NOT an expansion - it's just set in the same timeframe as Halo 3, which is why I believe that they get the numeric designation.

No more heroes is _mindless_ goregrind for you?
No more heroes lives through its story, well manhunt and mad world dont need a story other than "KILL"

Also i really enjoyed no more heroes, but i sadly had to play through the censored version (i know all the death scenes uncensored, dont worry ^^ )

This thread?

Or maybe it'll be ff13 which will be a nice bucket of fail

I would have to agree with that. Being a huge FF fan I have folowed the series for years and played/completed all (except XI which was an online game which can't be completed and it was awful so I didn't get very far). Every Final Fantasy past FFX has been awful, I have low expectations for this game and if it is a flop I think FF will lose an avid follower.
