No it's just that MadWorld isn't mindless violence. It's supposed to be satirical, like NMH. |

Well it's either satirical or very, very bad. Juding from the fact that it's from the makers of Viewtiful Joe and Okami, I took it to be satirical. |

That friend of yours seems like an avatar of the current console market. Although it's always nice when people who used to be disinterested in certain games begin to take an interest in classics and franchises we love, they do so en masse, and seem to love them for all the wrong reasons. Then developers go in listening to what the vocal majority likes and dislikes, and changes the game accordingly. Devil May Cry 2 is a perfect example of this. |

Paperboy Posts: 48 Joined: 5 Jan 2009 | Biggest dissapointment? I'd say Starcraft 2, except I was already dissapointed in it in 2008 and I wasnt really looking forward to it anyway... Owing to them basically and predictably not changing the damn thing; I mean seriously, C&C isnt so much the father as the grandfather of RTS standards, and grampy is now incontinent. That style of RTS became obsolete when Warzone 2100 was released. Now there's a good game that still has more unique features than most new releases. |

The problem with starcraft 2 being innovative is the huge fanbase, tv stations and sponsors wont like if their game is changed.hard. Its like changing american football to have a multi-ball-phase where 100 footballs are randomly thrown on the field every 3 minutes... |

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 851 Joined: 30 Jul 2008 | Jagged Alliance 3 (Although it's unfair to count it as 2009, 'cos this is possibly the biggest dissapointment of all time, if it ever get released) Diablo 3 Because not everyone has the time to play MMORPG. .. And of course 90% of the games that gets ported from consoles to the PC, with crappy controls that jerks about, cameras that point at a wall while the horsemen of doom are riding towards you, and not to mention not being about to save untill you've reached a checkpoint or safe house. (But then again, I'm quite used to these games, so it's not really a dissapiointment when a port I expected to be rubbish turns out to be actually rubbish) |

Judging by their more recent project , Bayonetta, it looks very very bad. User was banned for: Poll: What is your opinion on the Metal Gear Solid storylines?. (Permanent) |

How can one be disappointed by something that one never believed was going to be good? |

They aren't using the Unreal Engine with FF13, though. They're using an engine of their own. And The Last Remnant really did have an interesting battle system, but the failure to use tech properly and the sordid storyline made the game a chore. Such wasted potential. |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 672 Joined: 8 Nov 2007 | Bayonetta will probably be a dissapointment to some, not to me, I'm expecting very little from that one. Starcraft 2 will amaze everybody by doing nothing new and we'll all eat it up. Really, all they need to do is put a graphics updated 'classic mode' (same as SC1 except with a resolution going up to the 1600s and redone sprites) in there as a bonus and they're set. I'll call down my wrath upon Resident Evil 5, that thing is not going to live up to its hype or predecessor. It's a decided amount of 'hey, T&A!' and 'look, 2 player splitscreen!' and all the while you're playing the same game as 3 years ago. (To put a finer point on this one, yes, I've played one of the show-builds.) But really, guys, the worst thing that could happen to 2009 already happened and its called Timesplitters 4. Aside: |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2326 Joined: 19 May 2008 | I'm guessing if Deus Ex 3 comes out in 09 a lot of people or gonna be disappointed in it as from what I heard the developer of it said Deus Ex 1 was boring and slow. I got a feeling people are not gonna like it and it's gonna puss off a lot of fans. I have yet to play or beat the first one but yea...that has huge potential to bomb. Aside from that I always reserve my judgment for games until they come out and I see clear cut evidence that it's crap. I'v seen games that have looked like complete garbage before they came out but turned out quite good after release so yea.....DE3 is just a throw out there. |

Maybe it will drop below those expectations? |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 665 Joined: 9 Jun 2008 | I have a little faith in Blizzard. They know what is takes to make a good game and I would like to think that they know what made Starcraft and Diablo great and won't do much to kill them. So I think those games will be good. The only fail that maybe associated with those is their release date. Blizzard loves to tout, "we won't release a game until it is finished". 3 years later, we get to play. I wouldn't be surprised if these 2 games don't even show up in 2009. I agree with Indigo, Halo Wars will suck, but I think only Halo-tards will be expecting that one to be good, so I can't really call that one a disapointment. I think RE5 will be a compete rehash of RE4, but guess what, that means it will be made of awesome. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But you can put some flashy new paint on it. Assassin's Creed 2. I think this will be like RE5, they will rehash the first and slap on some new paint. I do have hopes/faith that they will improve what is the game's only major flaw (IMHO), the investigation missions are all the same. I don't know where this hope/faith comes from, but it is a warm and happy place made of sunshine and dreams. I think the biggest disapointment will come from Prototype, and I hate to say that. Prototype has SO MUCH potential to be compete bad ass injected with awesome on a bed of naked hookers dipped in chocolate, but I have this lingering feeling that it is going to suck. I call it the "Too Human" effect. |

Yeah, that's a great point - the lack of good titles this year's gonna be a huge disappointment! I mean, it's bad enough not expecting many good games, but not expecting many games at all? Surely that's going to be the most disappointing aspect of it all?
