Everyone must have a childhood game that has terrible graphics but because the game was so great, you looked past the look of the game.
If they would remake your game, would you mind it?
And I don't mean by just releasing the game on a different platform with just little extras.

For example, one of my favorite games is Final Fantasy VI on the Snes, and has been remade serval times for the PS1 and GBA (I know the GBA has two extra dungeons at the end of the game).

They could remake the game with update to date graphics (not just putting it onto a Portable console), but don't add any extras stuff in, just keeping to the original story.

Remaking games is a dumb idea and good games need to stay in the past. for example Golden eye was a good game back then, but in todays world compared to the modern FPS the game would be lack luster in terms of controlls and setting of the modern time.

I have always, and would still like to see a remake of the original sonic games. And not in the way Sonic Team would think of. I would keep everything as is, with graphical updates, and unique speech bubbles whenever sonic jumps on a baddie, or confronts Robotnik and the like. Nothing plot heavy, just funny things to read while racing through the level, like "Man, I need a chili dog!" or " You scuffed my runners!". I'd also opt in for certain portions to go into 3d, but only for cinematic effect. Like when at the end of Sonic 2, you run out of the Death Egg and jump down to earth. The camera would pan behind sonic at that point, and you would leap down into a much more awe inspiring planet. If you hadn't collected the Chaos emeralds, you would have to fall until you landed on the plan. If you had grabbed them, you could become super sonic and have some fun flying around the world in space before going back into the atmospher and meeting up with tails. Another moment this could happen might be in Sonic and Knuckles, the first level where you chase Robotnik through the woods.
But the game would have to feel like the originals, be bundles as a full package, and the new features would have to play vastly better than the original's. Or else they'd be cut.

illusion of gaia, i worry they would ruin it though, the 2D graphics were part of its charm

C'mon, how many times is the Remake thread going to be remade?

I would love it if they remade Snatcher. I still dust it off every 6 months or so and boot up the Mega Cd and relive Gillian Seeds adventures through Neo Kobe. I am not sure how they would do it as the old, almost archaic, text based interface would go down like a lead baloon with most casual gamers. Maybe a third person action fair would be the way to go but it would have to be done just right to get the very noir tone the orignal has. Doubt it will happen. Come on Hideo, pull your finger out!

I like the way this one is worded:

"What[,] you want your favorite childhood game to be remade?"

Throw in a deep Brooklyn accent and a picture like this:

I'm tempted to put down "maybe" regardless of my real answer.

That said, I wouldn't mind some remakes of some of the more original classics. E.G. Psi-5 Traders.

I've heard of another Alien game being made but I haven't seen much in the way of details about that.

I want to see another Alien Trilogy come out, would be the stuff of greatness in my semi-educated opinion.

<First real post ... woot>

I would love for Final Fantasy VII to be remade however I'd be scared of them ruining it.

I mean it was originally an incomplete game and was (apparently) meant to have multiple endings ... It would be good to have these added in but I would hate for them to do to Cloud what they did in the film (Over glorify him).

What do you think?

Mechwarrior 3 did the best at mech mechanics, and modders are making a multiplayer fighter like battlefield with the crysis engine. Mechwarrior: Living Legends and it looks sweet. I'd like a better controlled version of Blade of Darkness and a cleaned up storyline. the gore factor in the game and hit detection was sweet!

It all depends on what game and who is remaking it. I often find it irritating when a publisher assigns a different dev team to a classic series rebirth without the inclusion of any of the original staff (provided they're still employed there). The exception being that the original team totally blundered and all but ruined a once prominent franchise (i.e. Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness).

Personally, every time someone brings up the word "remake" I just into Pessimist Mode and automatically assume the worst; most of the time, rightfully so. This all boils down to your personal preferences though. Some people are more forgivable for certain shortcomings in a remake.

Classic games I'd like to see new iterations of are...

"Streets of Rage" (classic Sega beat'em up from the Genesis days.)
Either as an actual Streets of Rage 4 or as a series reboot.

"Wizards & Warriors" (An old NES trilogy made by Rare.)
Not widely remembered, but I always had a soft spot for these games. As a modern platform action game, it would probably end up as a low-budget downloadable XBLA title. :(

"Gemfire" (Koei strategy game similar to ROT3K.)
This game... consumed SO much of my time as a kid. My best friend and I would wage war on each other to a 7 hour stalemate.

"Alex Kidd" (Sega's pre-Sonic mascot. Great old platformer.)
Since new Sonic games don't seem to hold up well in 3D, I'm sure Alex Kidd wouldn't have much to lose in such an outing.

"Shadowgate" (Kemco puzzle adventure from Win3x/Mac/NES.)
One of the most eerie games I ever played on the NES as a kid. The music and artwork (especially of the Reaper upon death) just suck you in and really induce some Survival Horror-esque feelings. I think its time for another trip to Castle Shadowgate (The Wii would be a perfect platform).

"Neutopia" (Hudson Soft 'Zelda' clone from the Turbo-Grafx 16.)
At the time, this did everything that Zelda couldn't yet since A Link to the Past wasn't yet released. A 16-bit Zelda clone with near-perfect precision. I think there's room out there for a contender against Zelda. Perhaps on the Xbox 360.

I was going to list Splatterhouse but that prayer has already been answered. :D

Yes, I would also kinda would love to have Final Fantasy VII remade, but just too scared that it might be ruined.

If you would like better graphics I think there is, on the PC version of Final Fantasy VII, a MOD that makes the models of the characters more realistic, but kept the original scenery, the only things that changes were the character models, I think; I've only ever seen screen shots and I'm not completely sure that this is true.

I would like to see Sonic remade seeing as it was the first one I ever played ... oh wait thats already been done and comparing the original to the newest one last year is like comparing a smack on the head with a twenty ton truck and cake.

Yeah, I really hate Sonic now, I only liked the first games on the Sega systems, but that was a mistake, I know that some games wouldn't benefit from being remade, just like Sonic.

Also, I would like this Next Gen of Gamer Kids to be able to play the games that we used to play in the 80's and 90's, I know a lot of them wouldn't want to back track because they are so into realistic graphics and stuff like that.

I'd rather see an enjoyable original game than a remake of a cherised one.

Remaking something that was great, does not make it's successor so.

I wouldn't try and remake a game like that, maybe games that were just 2D; maybe in the far future they could remake that game.

Also makes me think would they ever release a Pokémon game (like Red, Yellow, Gold) that isn't 2D, and was a free roaming experience.
I think that would have been a good game for the N64, but if something like that was released now, I wouldn't touch it, I've become uninterested in Pokémon since there is too many of them to remember, I like to keep to the first two Generations of Pokémon.

Well, maybe not remake, but I would like a new Earthworm Jim game. I completed it when I was about 9, but now I've come back to it I'm stuck on the water level. Have I become shittier?

Anyway, Earthworm Jim in 3D would be awesome.

Yes I agree we need to move on in the development and progression of games. Remakes kill originality.

Klonoa 2... I dunno. Maybe a new Klonoa game, and I demand it be multi-platform.
Also, I want a remake of Medievil 2. Medievil 2 was the BEST IN THE SERIES. It involved Jack the Ripper, Mummies, demons, Skeletons with GUNS, dinosaurs, boxing, and arses.
It. Was. AWESOME.

I don't know, my favorite game from my childhood is Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. I think it'd be fun if they made a game like it, a stand-alone Zelda adventure with all of the awesome Zelda gameplay and taking place somewhere not connected to Hyrule. As far as I know, Link's Awakening is the only "traditional" Zelda game thus far which did not take place in that setting.

They made one. Its was for PC, I found it when I was in Holland. It was pretty good too. The premise is that you're inside Jim's mind because he "lost his marbles" and you have to go to different parts of his psyche to collect all his marbles again.

Dear god, no. It would destroy all the magic of Secret of Mana! (Seiken Densetsu 2)
And no, Earthworm Jim 3D is not awesome. It's like a mix between Crash Bandicoot, Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie.. on lysergic acid. All wacky sounding, but no. 2D though..

But personally, I would love or hate if Natsume (natume!) remade Harvest Moon 64. I'm unsure about an addition of voice actors, but I think just a remake of graphics and additional cutscenes could either go awesome or shitty.

I like that idea, a lot actually, however, I've never been happy with any of his voice actors. I guess SA:B2's rendition felt the most realistic, but the version of Sonic in my mind has always been his Sonic CD look. However, I could see trying to fit that persona with a cute sounding anime character suck.

In it's own, I thought it was an adequate game. Some quirks the series is known for maintained, some even making me laugh. Unfortunately, it holds little water being compared to its predecessors - the charm that bustled in the Genesis games were mostly abandoned.

Aye, I did notice some of the amusing qualities remained during the short time I tried it out at a friends place, but I think I did indeed compare it and, thus, lost interest.

I don't know if anyone ever played Moonstone for the Amiga. At the time it had everything you could want froma game. Knights running around hacking apart monsters, dragons and other knights. Blood everywhere coupled with massively entertaining decapitations. the there was gambling, pillaging graves and generally kitting your knight out to be a badassed killing machine. AND it had four player multiplayer. AND one of the monsters was called a Ballock......well it made me laugh. All this in an Amiga game. It was fucking awesome.

What I'm trying to say is they should make another Moonstone. Take the basic premise - Slaughter a kingdoms worth of gribblies and then kick the fuck out of a big assed witch but add some shiny new features and graphics and you've got an absolute winner

If you never played Moonstone, for shame but check out this link for all the best bits, sums up what I mentioned pretty nicely actually.

A remake of the original DOOM, my first game, would be awesome. With the same gameplay and everything but with upgaded graphics and that kind of shit.
