Infamous Scribbler Posts: 622 Joined: 8 Dec 2008 | My character of choice is Marth (not Ike, just to be different), but I also like playing as Bowser, Ganondorf, Samus, Kirby, Toon Link, Mr. Game & Watch, Pikachu, or plain old Mario. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a cool game, but there's also something very sour about it for me. When I first heard Melee would get a sequel I was ecstatic, since SSBM is my favorite Gamecube game and one of my favorite games ever. Actually, 40% of the reason I bought my Wii in the first place was just so I could play SSBB when it was released! So yeah, cool game, SSBB, but also the reason why I switched from the Wii to the 360. Great going, Nintendo. |

i agree completely, Ike is amazing and his final smash is just awesome. Link is good but he seems to have had a downgrade from melee. |

well, had you just been patient and waited like the rest of us you wouldn't have wasted all that money. |

I already waited patiently for a long time for the game to finally be completed. Then when it's finished, they release it in Japan and USA but put Europe in some kind of three month localization queue! I still don't understand how Nintendo could pull a stunt like that with SSBB of all games, for me it was the Wii game I was looking forward to more than any other game, and I don't think I was the only one. |

You spent that much money on importing a casual game that you knew would come out (eventually)? I would advise you to never own a credit card. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2979 Joined: 7 Oct 2008 | I only played the original game and Melee. I'm a Marth man. My favorite character to use for fun is Mewtwo. And no, I have no plans to play Brawl. Ever. I don't need to play the same game for the 3rd time. |

Well, as I explained, I was very much looking forward to SSBB. I liked SSBM more than any other Gamecube game, so the idea of a sequel with more characters, moves, levels, extras, etc. seemed really awesome. So I was already counting the months till March 2008, when Nintendo suddenly says "yeah, Europe will have to wait till June, by the way". I'll admit I'm a bit of an impatient person, but SSBB was just the must-have Wii title for me. If they had delayed Super Mario Galaxy or Mario Kart or another game that way, it wouldn't have been such a problem for me. I actually have a credit card. I don't think it has led me to make many purchases that I later regretted. Well, maybe one or two. But it's just really convenient to have. Plus it allows me to buy stuff from America or Japan. |
Beat Writer Posts: 194 Joined: 30 Apr 2008 | Marth and Mewtwo. Goddamn it, why'd they cut Mewtwo from Brawl. Didn't Sakurai say they were trying to cut down on "clone" characters? Yet they kept Fox and Falco near identical, and added Wolf (who is still one of the best characters, I might add). And they cut out Mewtwo, one of the most unique characters from Melee. Urgh. Luckily Marth was my #1 choice and they kept him for Brawl. Although I still have no idea who the Hell he is. |

Me no understandy. You knew it would come out. You choose to spend lots of extra money for a few extra months. Are you dying or something? Was there not other things you could do? |

There's never been a game you wanted to play so badly that you had to have it as soon as possible, and waiting an extra 3,5 months would be totally unacceptable for you? Well, SSBB was that for me anyway. As for playing other games, I think there actually weren't so many other great Wii games, so not really. |

No.
I can't figure the love for the series at all. I genuinely can't see it. Its not overly good from a fighting mechanic sense (Soul Calibur or Dead or Alive is much better), there's no real challenge to master the moves (unlike Tekken or Street Fighter) and it's a weak multiplayer game compared to the DC's Power Stone 2. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 780 Joined: 14 May 2008 | I still play Melee frantically. I was going to buy a Wii just to play Brawl, but when I played it for the first time I found it to be a huge disappointment, and also the 3 month delay was fucking ridiculous. Me and my friends just ended up sticking with Melee, and I'm really glad we did, because Brawl is just slow and boring compared to Melee. My characters in Melee are Dr. Mario and Jigglypuff. Bliss.
I'm getting tired of having to defend Smash in every fighting game topic, but you don't know how to play the game if you think there's no challenge to master the moves. Yes, you can play it as a party game, but someone who plays the game casually wouldn't stand a chance against someone who plays the game on a "serious" level, for lack of a better term. |

Ok, well, I have that very sometimes, such as in the case of SSBB.
Well, I had great fun with SSB and SSBM, and with SSBB as well. (although it wasn't that much better than Melee as I had expected, ironically..) First of all I like fighting with the characters from all those different games, and it has enough different moves and attacks to stay interesting. I know it's not so 'tight', as in, a lot of random stuff happens, but I kind of like the hectic situations which appear. I don't know, I think it just feels really good to play. |

Best local multiplayer game next to Choo Choo Rocket. Basically a 3d fighter based around the concept of power stones. Collect three and you power up to an badass/super suit version of yourself and unless hell on the other players. Fun comes in stopping the other players getting a set (most attacks will 'knock' a power stone or two out of an opponent). They had huge interactive fighting arenas and tons of crazy weapons. Fireworks bombs, hurricane bombs, time bombs, ball & chains, laser shotguns, little megaphones that made victims dance for a second, bubble guns (that trapped you in bubbles), miniguns, RPGs, Monkey-esque extendo sticks.... See this below: You can swing round poles and smack people, the bigger characters pick up the poles and smack people. The little tank thing is a laugh. There's some boulder catapults to the left of the image. And on and on and on! Settings let you change the number of stones in each round from 3 (just enough for one set, won't get very many power ups) to 7 (enough for two people to go super at one time!). There was also cooperative story mode with a couple of sweet boss levels. Sigh. I need to get that out again. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 622 Joined: 8 Dec 2008 | Hm, it does sound like fun. But I read it's only available on Dreamcast and PlayStation Portable? Unfortunate, I don't think I can try it then. |

If you have a big TV you can do a lot worse for real party games than picking up the following: Dreamcast |

Well, some cool 4-player games would be nice, on the Wii I only have Brawl (and Wii Sports and Wii Play and such, but they're rather meh), and for the Xbox 360 there are mostly just one and two player games. (I didn't even bother to buy a third controller.) But after quickly checking eBay I estimate the things you listed would cost 300 euro or so. Ah, I think I'll just stick to Bomberman, that's always fun. |

Personally I love Snake, he's fast and pretty much rapes everything, not to mention that his final smash is kinda fun.
