Least Annoying Support Characters

Alright, let's just face it. Most support characters are better off dead and spend a majority of their time running in front of your bullets and cracking unfunny jokes. But now and then, there are some support characters that DON'T suck.

My favorite support character is Carmine from Gears of War 2. He was never in your way and he would actually help you in need.

He was one of the best characters in the game, or in just about any game I've played. I wish there were more support characters like him.

Who is your favorite support character?

Alxy Vance is pretty good when she's with you in the Half-Life 2 series.

I was really irritated when they killed off Eli Vance in the last part of Half Life 2 Ep2.

He seemed like a kind of post-apocalyptic Morgan Freeman to me...and while he was still a kind of minor character he was one of the most interesting in the whole game...certainly more interesting than Gordon Freeman himself....

I almost cried. He was so awesome and that was just so unexpected. Half-Life 2 had some great support characters, but mostly because they weren't with you the whole game.

Feel free to disagree but Ashley in RE4 finally took the typical escort quest and made it playable without wanting to toss a controller through the nearest wall. I think she deserves an honourable mention in this regard but then you suddenly remember that she has the personality of a bag of dog food which made it very satisfying to unload a slug or two into the back of her head.

I say Atlas from Bioshock. Right before he screws you in the ass.

True, but her zombine joke ruins things somewhat.

My favorite support character has to be Waka from Okami. He's just that awesome in a quirky way. Him or Auron.

Alyx is indeed awesome (god, she broke my heart at the end of Episode Two), though I admit I liked Barney a bit more. "I see your MIT education really pays for itself!" Oh, Barney, you ass.

I'm also a big Otacon fangirl. I bugged him about everything in the games. :3 "LOOK, OTACON, I'M SMOKING. NAG AT ME, YOU DORK. <3"

Atlas was possibly the best if you wanted to hear as little from your support guy as possible. He kept pretty quite outside mission objectives.

But I genuinely like having a Voice With an Internet Connection when I play games. I like the connection. Except Zero in MGS3. God, he annoyed me...

Bartiism:

could you put a spoiler warning please, so not to spoilify stuff.

I hate all support characters, I hate them especially in Half life 2.

I hate the way they get in your way in most games, but in half life, I hate the way they make me care about them.

Yoshi for sure!

You mean the "Zombine" joke?

I thought that was funny. Not laugh out loud funny, but a chuckle.

The "Lowly Murderer" in Elder Scrolls Oblivion because when they show up its not to hard to control them and the other 99% of the time that they dont show up.. YAY!!!

P.S. You also have never have to worry about how many die. You can never Run out of them.

the Arbiter provided a good distraction on legendary

as they anhilated him all i had to do was pick ppl off/stick the Arbiter with Plasma
more funny than useful i guess

if u really hated that suggestion then how bout the dog of fable 2?

I found Alyx about as much fun as Navi.

I think Half-Life 2 had some awesome support characters generally though, namely Kleiner and Eli, they're my favorites, not sure which I prefer so I chose both

Oh my I do agree that you will have some angry people yelling at you including me. Although RE4 was and is an excellent game and by far one of my favorites, Ashley was the reason why it isn't the greatest game ever. She spent most of the game running into the hands of enemies and in front of my bullets. I remember there was one section of the game where next to the door, there was an explosive barrel and there was a bunch of enemies and the easiest way to clear it out was shooting the barrel. Well, she would always run right next to the barrel and get exploded every time and if I didn't blow it up, a zombie would and it would kill me and her and if they didn't blow up the barrel, they would pick her up and take her and blah blah blah. My point is, I didn't like her one bit. But feel free to have you're own opinion.

Anyone in MGS4. They gave useful information most of the time. Mainly Otacon, but a little bit Rose and the colonel.
Hunnigan from Resident Evil 4. She didn't do a whole lot but she wasn't annoying at all.
For the ones who help in combat, I would go with Mike from Resident Evil 4. That chopper pilot? Anyone remember him? He blew away so many Ganados I was so sad when he died.

first time I played I found it funny, but second time when i threw cautious out of the window, I was busy slaying and shooting shit while she cracked jokes? Alex! how could you do that to me, help out!

My heart almost stopped when he got killed. That was pretty sad.

his name is Mike, fuck sake, have a little respect!

one minute silence for Mike?.

The AIs from COD4 were fantastic. I know what Yahtzee has said of them, but they are extremely helpful in picking off waves of bad guys and never got on my nerves.

Aar, I wanted to say Carmine.
Ok then, er, my dog in Fable 2.

HK-47 from KOTOR he's useful, funny and what most games that offer choice need; a cheerleader for being evil.

LadyZephyr:
Alyx is indeed awesome (god, she broke my heart at the end of Episode Two), though I admit I liked Barney a bit more. "I see your MIT education really pays for itself!" Oh, Barney, you ass.

My reply? "Gee, Barn, I'd have gone to Martinson College like you, but they were booked solid that year."

I really said that to the screen, too. I love Barney. Where'd he go?

That is actually pretty lulz-worthy. :D

He'll show up in Ep3 when it looks like all hope is lost, swinging in on a rope, pulse rifle blazing, saving the entire goddamn day.

You know it to be true.

Minsc and Boo

Yorda?

Red and Leggit from Brothers in Arms: RTH30

Red just because of his rather entertaining entrance, especially if you've played the second one, and Leggit because the whole time he's getting on your nerves you know full well he's gonna die. (Not a spoiler, you find that out in the first 5 minutes of the game.)

The Doc in MDK.

The Dog from Fable 2.

Or Wrex and Garrus from Mass Effect.

Auron from FFX was pretty badass in my opinion, more-so than even Kratos (this is where the hate comes. I'm pretty sure there's a decent number of GoW players that hate FF or JRPG's in general). OK, done with the acronyms.

Lanowar:
HK-47 from KOTOR he's useful, funny and what most games that offer choice need; a cheerleader for being evil.

HK-47 was awesome! I also like the way you described him. I never would have thought of that, but it works so freaking well.

Dom in Gears 2 - I know the OP said Carmine, but Dom is always by your side, whilst Carmine is not.

The new prince of persia would have been impossible without elika, who does half of the job for you. I guess they noticed the people who got frustrated over having to protect farah in battles i PoP: tsot. Personally I like farahs personality a little better though.

HL2- ep 2 spoiler

I think you should spoil that for other peoples sake. I have finished the game, but think of the others.

Also liked alyx a lot, she helped you out in may scenes and was not a complete retard in combat. Also great personality of course.
I havent played gears 2, but in gears the AI could occasionally be a irritation. Reason being they rushing right into combat and getting themselves hurt and you dying for trying to rescue them.

Any of the survivors in Dead Rising.. oh.. wait.. NO!

umm seriously.. I like the three AI's in L4D if you are playing it single player (for what ever reason :S) They have some good lines, they react well.. (some times) Plus its nice to know you have 3 people to rely on. not just 1.

Joker in Mass Effect, and all the side characters...Amazing, no character was unneeded.
