Does Samus Aran count?

Agreed

I thought she was a bounty hunter.

Uhm... This is pretty simple, folks.

The Emperor.

And if anyone mentions Master Chief, then they should go to the lowest level of Hell.

I just know im going to get flamed for pointing thiso out but...

The big E-man isn't actually a space marine, so he doesn't count. Neither does Horus cause hes a Primarch

Gawd people are going to hate me for quoting a large picture comment
The Emperor isn't a space marine, like what he already said. Greatest space marine is probably a Grey Knight Terminator or Chaplain.

Samus. Silent, confident, and has a mounted wrist blaster. She's a great protagonist.

Technically Ciaphas Cain isn't a Space Marine either (He's a Commisar) But I still count him. Only for being the greatest character in 40K (And the closest thing we have to a... Choatic GOOD hero)

I'll go with Cypher from WH40K

I'd give honorable mentions to Marneus Calgar, Lord Dante and Mephiston

The ghosts from starcraft, they were badass, to name a specific ghost I would go whith Vladmir Stukov.

It would have to be someone from WH40K. I don't think there were any space marines before the Imperium, so the Emperor was probably never one himself. So... Horus?

A close second is generic space marine guy from Starcraft. He knows he's doomed, but he follows your insane orders anyway. What a stand-up guy.

Ferrus Mannus primarch of the Iron Hands. Not only did he single handed kill 3 entire chapters in the drop pod massacre he also killed two of the primarchs and then freaking emperors children killed him, the jerk. He also killed a space dragon but that's just icing to the cake.

My vote goes to MSgt. Johnson from Halo.

Why would that pick be flamed. He actually is a space marine.

Ragnar Blackmane of the Space Wolves deserves a mention, for many reasons. Chief among them a piece of fiction from the 2nd edition Space Wolves Codex where he runs up to a Tyranid Carnifex with a frag grenade in his hand, shoves his whole fist into the things' mouth leaving the grenade in there, kicks off from the things' chest and does a backflip away from it while it has its' lungs blown out of its' back by the blast.

I guess you're right, but she fits the profile of a space marine. Futuristic suit, laser weapon, that sort of thing. That's good enough for me.

The guy from Doom, duh. He single-handedly defeated Hell's minions and saved the Earth, although he did lose his pet bunny.

So people are actually choosing a small black man with a moustache over The Emperor as the greatest space marine?

Seriously guys?

I know it's your favourite but it's definitely not the greatest.
The Emperor literally started it all. A whole raging war and fanatics grew out of him.

What did Mr.Johnson do?

And to anyone saying he isn't a space marine:

1) Big suit-o-armour.

2) Combat in space.

Hmm..IMHo it's a toss up between the Grey Knights and Space Wolves, but that is just my favouritism speaking.

The Emperor might not be a Space Marine, but he can sic them on you. Thats gotta count for something.

Michael Ironsides' character in Starship Troopers...simply because it's Michael Ironsides. I dare you to find something better.

Man, I dunno if I'd go with...

Colonel O'Neill- "In the middle of my BACKSWING!?" Best. Episode. Ever.
Master Chief- 'nough said. Sergeant Johnson isn't half-bad either.
Han Solo- He was, actually.

Doom Guy (If you want to believe the doom novel series his name is actually Flynn Taggart, and for the events of Doom 1 is a lance corporal (E-4 pay grade, if he was Army he would be a specialist or, if laterally promoted into a leadership position a corporal)

Samus Aran is an unaffiliated bounty hunter - at best a soldier of fortune. Assuming the military ranks transfer from modern day into the Mass Effect universe, Shepard is actually Navy (Commander is rank 0-5, Army/Navy/Marine rank is Lt. Colonel)

Samus may be a bounty hunter, but she seems to work exclusively for the Galactic Federation, is dispatched on landing missions from GF ships, and supports GF marines. i'd say she counts as a paramilitary.

Sera's a colony, so it's likely the COGs are marines too. the COLE TRAIN kicks far more locust ass though.

I'll be "that guy." Master Chief.

I'll say Master Chief, but the MC from the German version of the original Halo for the PC. The German voice actor actually makes the MC sound like a real soldier, not a copped-up, George Thorogood-sounding, badass, space cowboy who spews ice-cold one-liners every time he gets a close-up on his nonexistent face.

So there. *win*

So, No. Ripley is not a Space Marine.... but is harder than all of them!

People keep saying this. And while i understand the theory behind it i really cannot see how a woman dumped into a shit-hole of a situation is more impressive than the 40K marines, who have chainsaw-swords. The sentiment is nice, but there's character and then there's marine-ness.

So... riding a cargo powerloader and beating a twelve-foot alien to death with it isn't 'marine' enough for you?
