Hmm Wow bashing is such an easy sport isn't it. I love wow I have played many different MMo's but never found the same connection with any of them. It is as a friend of mine stated 3d Runescape and as such shouldn't interest me but it does with a passion?

Why do I like it no idea, it started with all my friends doing it, i was on Guild WARS before peer pressure got me into the hard stuff and Now Im addicted to the hard stuff!

On the subject of people dying playing the game, I think natural selection by MMO is as valid a form of social weeding as anything.

But all joking aside they have been working hard to stop this being just a grind WOTLK has brought in some new interesting ideas and unfortunately a raft of ill mannered stupid teenagers with no sense of humour and the vocabulary of a mentally handicapped Baboon.

I am both pro and anti the game simultaneously, but I speak as a player with valid concerns born of the game changing on me not a person who finds the phrase world of failcraft amusing and knocks mmos to make themselves feel a tad less nerdy.

No you WoW lovers already lost once this thread was created.

Look, that you don't like a game doesn't mean anyone who plays it is an idiot. Have you ever played it? And if not, how do you know anything about the loot system, combat and other things? Or do you have some sort of telepathic extrasensory organ?

Hmm I dunno maybe that, I played the game.

Again, Railroad spikes, Acid, Mr Rogers.

WoW is a fairly decent RPG, even if the classes can be horribly unbalanced.

It's such a good, feeling, to know your alive.
It's such a happy, feeling, to play it online.
And when you log on, happy, to say -
I'm gonna level my dwarf, today.

It's such a good feeling.
A very good feeling.

Yep. Fred Rogers was an amazing person, especially when it came to children's programming. If it weren't for him, stations like PBS would never have gotten the support they did.

I personally don't care about WOW, but would say that having t share a wonderful fantasy world with the internet is a scary idea. I'd rather not share anything with most people who you can meet over the net, simply because you do not know who anyone is.

EDIT: Isn't it interesting that so many of the posts on this forum are terribly mispelt, poorly punctuated and spotted with smileys and abbreveations? Says a lot about WoW fans, that does.

Not even. Hunters and Rogues. I don't play during the semester, but they were getting severely irritating to deal with anytime I went near PvP. The hell with that.

"Escapists" like to think that they are the most intelligent people on the internet, and stick by the principle that bad spelling or grammar=complete retard. Therefore, any mention of WoW gets dirty looks from the elitists who can't play games with the unwashed masses

I have to admit that sometimes I resort to this as well. It's pretty hypocritical since I'm always very annoyed at fanboys bashing the Wii while using the same old bad argumentation. I guess it just isn't my kind of game and I just don't really understand it, I've played the game for a short while and got bored very quickly. Also my sister has been addicted to it for quite some time, while we only have one PC with internet connection...

I used to play WoW. After Blizzard fucked me one too many times I was fed up. Didn't care if all my RL friends play WoW, Blizzard just flat out doesn't give a fuck about it's customers. They love money. Another fine example is the Starcraft 2 being 3 separate games. Blizzard just saw that they let balance and other game mechanics get out of hand, then they were too lazy to fix it because they knew people would not stop playing if they didn't.

I don't bash all MMOs, but I don't like WoW. I found it repetitive, I found the combat lacking and boring, the economy weak, and obviously, a distinct lack of player housing.

You can't really knock the game, or any other MMO, they all have their selling points. The real thing people dislike about MMO's is the effect they can have on people. Some people really do fall in hard and end up spending a lot of their time on WoW and similar MMO's. But then, if they enjoy doing it why shouldn't they be allowed to spend as much time as they want on a game that they enjoy?

I would like to know why people bash wow, or mmos at all
I figure its because "people have no lives" or some stupid sh*t like that
I play wow, and i think it is awesome.
why all teh hate?

You think people have no lives because they DON'T play WOW? Congratulations my impressive vocabulary has been rendered useless to this...idiocy.

That said, I truly believe that WoW is the pinnacle of modern MMORPG design (not that there aren't some great other games out there, but Blizzard is a developer on an entirely different level) and - particularly in its current WotLK incarnation - one of the best games ever made.

No offence dude, but you lost me round about here. Don't get me wrong. If you enjoy WOW, then that's all gravy. I myself enjoy a number of games that I know my fellows would spit on in a second. But seriously? One of the best games ever made? Really? I mean, I tried the ten day trial, and got bored to the point of tears within two. Different tokes for different folks and all that, but let's not go overboard here.

What is it about the game that makes you rate it thus highly?

Having met quite a few people on the WoW team this past October at Blizzcon (and visiting the Blizzard studios)... these people take incredible pride in what they do.

It could be pride. Or it could just be glee at the thought of all that money coming in next month. How much is $15 times 11.5 million again?

I'm sorry, the cynic in me is taking over. I'll go bash WOW somewhere else...

I stand by that statement completely.

Part of it is the world. I remember playing FFXII and being disappointed that I'd be blocked off from exploring areas by invisible barriers, and it was such a change from what I'd been used to. The world in WoW is gigantic, and superbly crafted - to paraphrase Oli Welsh at Eurogamer, Blizzard's artists and world-builders are simply unparalleled. There's such care put into the world, even in the little touches like exploring Outland and finding a small orphanage nestled into the foothills of a mountain range. There aren't any questgivers there, it's just a little bit of the world. Granted, I think they've gotten BETTER at this going on - after WotLK, a lot of the old-world zones definitely look dated, but they're still heads and shoulders above most of the rest of the competition.

There's also so much content in the game that it's literally staggering. Earlier this year, I started replaying GTA San Andreas - a fantastic game in its own right. After about three weeks or a month with the game, I was finished. I'd done everything there was to do. Three weeks in WoW is barely scratching the surface. There are SO many quests, storylines, etc that I've been playing for four years and I still haven't done them all. What's more, everything that's there... though a lot of it is the standard MMO fare, that too has only gotten better as the game has evolved. What IS there is just cleverly implemented and never felt too grindy. Not only is there a ton of it, but there's a pretty good range for whatever MMO playstyle you want, especially nowadays.

The endgame PvE is just stellar, with some of the coolest and most creative boss fights I've ever seen in a game. The production quality is absolutely top-notch, and the little touches in the game (whether serious or for laughs - like the rat surrounded by four turtles in the Dalaran sewers) that you'll just stumble upon. There are other games that do this, and do it well, of course.

The social aspect is wonderful, if you get a good guild. Yes, the PvE content is great, but the fun of it is just chatting on Ventrilo with my guildies and drinking a cold beer as we slaughter baddies. I won't lie, it's the people I've known that have made the long-term experience in WoW so enjoyable.

WoW is simply just a triumph of Massive game design, and it doesn't hurt that the traditional Blizzard polish simply makes it a blast to play through instead of a chore. The game feels like more than the sum of its parts. Sure, it's not for everyone, and MMOs aren't for everyone, but I feel that from a truly objective nature, it's one of the best put-together games ever made.

It could be pride. Or it could just be glee at the thought of all that money coming in next month. How much is $15 times 11.5 million again?

I'm sorry, the cynic in me is taking over. I'll go bash WOW somewhere else...

It could be. But... well, let me tell you a story from Blizzcon.

After the first day with the community summit, I'm in the lobby of the hotel I'm staying in, having a few drinks and chatting with a guy who's been at Blizzard for seven or eight years now as part of their community team. He tells me a story about how he'd seen his boss come in and yell at the person he shared an office with - not because of lost money, or anything like that, but because people weren't going to be having the best experience possible at Blizzcon. He was truly, genuinely upset at this.

This is the same company that twice canned games that would have been surefire hits - SC Ghost and WC Adventures - because they weren't up to snuff. Yes, they're a company. At the end of the day, they have families that need to be fed, mortgages that need to be paid off, and employees that need a salary. Do they like money? That's like asking "Are they human?"

My visit to Irvine gave me more of a respect for Blizzard than I ever had before, and that's saying quite a bit :P

I've lost so many friends to it :(

I like to just buy a game, play it and generally enjoy myself. I'd hate to fork out cash over and over for what's essentially the same thing. Maybe if there was no subscription, I'd give it a shot. I just don't have time for many games any more, especially not a Muh-mor-pa-guh.

The game does mostly suck today... and the community is horrid, which can be said for most online games anyways. (360 anyone? )

But then again, I don't think it's such a bad game. You can probably get addicted to it, but that's more of a personal fault for you... I had friends who played WoW (and i mean really hardcore) and I've done it too, and it was easy to quit and never look back.

Overall, it's not such a bad game if you find a good company to play with.

But if the majority of WoW players are leet speaking idiots (I'm not going to use the age "argument" here, because I don't believe it's valid in most cases), that's one good reason to hate them. Oh and there is always the good old gamer stereotype... You know it.

Fair play dude. I still stand by my statement that it is the most boring gaming experience I've ever had, but if it floats your boat... well, I'll just let you off with a funny look and a few negative respect points. Only a few.

Though that story from Blizzcon is awesome. Can't imagine EA doing that anytime soon.
