You might want to put your stuff in Spoiler boxes, dude. You just ruined the story for anyone walking by your post.
The best fake ending was Hitman:BM. Suberbly cinematic. For bioshock, I knew it wasn't the ending, because of the oh so obvious bathysphere level selections.
yeah, only got bioshock for xmas, and not had a chance to finish it.... thanks.
Perhaps you should consider enjoying the ride, rather than holding out for the ending? I like false endings, because they usually add more gameplay time. That's about it really.
I'm gonna say I like them if they're done right. If it has a decent twist and surprise you, it's good. If it just adds a new villain randomly with no foreshadowing and just seems to exist to lengthen the game play, I don't like it.
They aren't used often enough to be considered annoying. On the contrary, if the game is good I rather enjoy them. Also, if you wanted BioShock to end so badly why were you playing it in the first place?
ok soz about that let me explain myself... first off! im new i dident even know there was a spoilery thing! and secondly i havent actuely spoiled anything really =/ you just now know the games a bit longer than you thought it was gonna be.
hey hey common now im not sayin i dont like them and i havent enjoyed the ride, ive bloody enjoyed the game its amazing :D just you kinda build yourself up for a humoungouse boss battle, use all your stockpiled crap like money and ammo and wham btw lol your not finished.. feels a tiny bit cheap.
xD don't worry about it, welcome to the escapist. Mentioning almost anything plot related (especially in 'newer' games will generally get someone moaning about spoilers) Bioshock is a good game tho, a little creepy for my tastes (get creeped out easily) but playing through it. it's an interesting system with the plasmids.
If you want false endings play Okami.
oh, also look at yahtzee's video on mercinaries 2 for an explanation of the 'stockpiled weapons' thing you mentioned.
Twists like that make a game more interesting. Maybe you just didn't enjoy playing Bioshock as much you think you did?
ok please, to the people who suggest i dident like the game, i did.. i bloody love the gamewould still be playing it if i hadent spent the last day shooting splicers in the face! i missed a few good meals and got to the asformentioned part and was like woooo whaa..? even the best games feel like work once youve been doing it solidly for some time. and grsanted it iritated me! but so what? every game gets on your tits at some point, i can say this as ive been playing wow since i was old enough to own a debit card, a good 4ish years ago
Yes, because a thread with every post reading isn't ridiculous. If you don't want a video game end spoiled, don't click a thread that talks about video game "endings". Seriously. Brain power, use it.Fake endings? Does Jericho count?
hey a false ending is better than no ending at all
Just to be on the safe side put it in a spoiler box, like this one: If you're not sure how to do it just click the quote button and take a look at what I've put in. I guess Necro has a point about not needing loads of spoiler boxes, but using one for the first post seems a good thing.
Not really fake but rather an early bad ending. In Persona 4 there is a bad, normal and true ending. The thing that gets me is that the bad ending is based on a single conversation and comes out of no where. I would have never know if I hadn't read the game had multiple endings. Plus I went from a 66 hour band ending to a 79 hour true ending. That's a lot of content to miss on a single conversation.
Its not a fake ending. Dude in reality you have 20 minutes of gameplay left. Unfortunatly its not the mozart of endings. Great boss battle though.
Well, I thought that GTA IV's ending should have been when you
If you did the "chose to work with him" ending, you get the "better" end, in my opinion. Not better as in more uplifting, in fact it's a terrible downer in all ways, but it's still the correct way for the game to end. - J
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura did this. You finally reach the guy you've been hunting for ages, and it turns out he's just as much of a victim as you. And the game had been dropping subtle hints that this might be the case for ages, so the big reveal is even cooler. (And I refuse to spoiler this, the game has been out for something like a decade, it is officially past it's spoiler date.)
I chose to kill him for two reasons. 1: I promised myself that I would kill him if I ever saw him again, and 2:
Donkey Kong Country, when you think you've beaten King K. Rool!! Yeah.. That's what I'm contributing to this.
I agree, but if that little fact was over looked it would have been all good.
Short, what you are defining as fake endings are not fake endings at all. They are called reversals. You seem to be annoyed with the three act structure and actual plot development. In Bioshock, the end of the second act hardly counts as a "fake ending" and far from being annoyed by them, One of the major complaints about games is that they do not offer the writing of other form of narrative entertainment. Getting rid of complex plot development, making the game more obvious is a step backwards into a more simplistic and irrelevant area. If this bothers you, you would probably be more interested in games from 1982 to 1992. The current world of games is not a friendly place for you.
I have mixed reactions, really. It's all dependent on various factors. Note: This is only if you're surprised by it not being the real ending.
Castlevania does this all the time these days, and I love it. I love seeing a different ending because of something I did different in the game.
In Chrono Cross, if you kill the final boss instead of using elements in a specific order then you get the "fake ending". To get the real ending you need to save someone instead of kill something.
The only reason BioShock's "fake" ending is that I was done with it and I wanted some closure on the story. Then it turns out I have more work to do; I never got my closure.
sorry my reply is in spoiler mode cus ive only just worked it out, and i like a good rant but aside from that your idea that im only suited for games pre 92 kinda irks me a bit. i love immersion and story telling in a game its the reason i play games to escape the stress of work and life etc. granted i enjoy the gamey games like fps's and RTS's but rpgy games are what i enjoy. the thing was it broke the immersion, whilst ill quite happliy play the night away and have done on this game it just felt so cheap =/ not gonna stop playing the game, its great. so, bring on the complex plot etc ill get stuck in and shoot smack wrestle oiled up midgets untill my hearts content.
Going to disagree with you there, ShortCommings. Bioshock is a retro System Shock, and they were all about messing with your mind. In a WhateverShock game... it's never, ever over when you think it is. You never escape when you expect to, if at all. You are there to be manipulated, twisted, to have your mind and soul torn apart by uncaring forces. That's what was COOL about that plot twist. Just when you thought it might all be over, you realise that you've been manipulated and damn it, it's time to take your life back! Then again, that might just be me.
Like anything else, if its poorly done then yes, I don't like them. But if it adds to it and gives you something more to look forward to, then I whole-heartedly enjoy them. I just depends on what you are discussing.
Bioshock's "surprise ending" wasn't really that much of a shocker...
I like games with multiple endings, but with a clear point where the story branches off to get you the different ending, instead of "You got X level in stats, here's your ending". Only one I can think of at the moment is S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Yeah recently they did something similar in Mercenaries 2 but then I was like hey that didn't work followed by further Fury at my Enemies.
