I never played it on any other difficulty than easy, because I didn't like it all that much. It was good, but only once.

I honestly found Bioshock to be fairly easy, even on hard. With or without the vita chambers. Of course, this is on the PC (not sure what you're playing it on).. and a good 16 years of playing FPS's under my belt.

What he said. When you've done Far Cry on realistic Bioshock is hilariously easy. Three words on how to beat Bioshock: "side", "step" & "shotgun".

After getting Bioshock I love having a wrench as a badge. Brings good memories

The Big Daddies are the worst. Most splicers are just there to annoy you and to drain bullets. Most important thing bout fighting the big daddies is making sure you are in a good enviroment. Lots of hacked turrets, oil, or water to work in your advantage.

I found it very easy, and I was playing on hard.

Do you happen to have beaten every other FPS ever known to human kind? If not you are incredibly skilled.

OK, now your being a little whiny. If you are not an experienced FPS player, Bioshock, like any new game-type is going to be a little more challenging because it is different from what you are used to. For an experienced FPS player, Bioshock would be really easy to complete without dying, even on hard mode. I am not the most experienced of FPSers I played on Medium and at about ten hours, I did not die again. So, mind the lip, he was answering the question you asked.

As for making the game easier, you have to find a style of play that works for you, Bioshock offers multiple strategies that work well. I used to snipe, lay traps, chameleon skin and telekinesis in a jam and fire in a shitstorm. my bro used rage, rocket launchers and machine guns.

From the sound of things, it sounds like you would favor being a monkey wrencher. It is all automatic (no magic powers needed) and you can take out a big daddy with three swings of the wrench when it is all maxed out.

PM me with your specific issues and I'll customize a couple strategies for you that should make the game move more smoothly.

I was not a fan of bioshock but i did not find it to be too difficult. I found the ol' freeze (or alternatively shock) and wrench tactic worked quite well and though that was amusing for a while, watching a splicer stand frozen uncontrollably to a spot whilst i deposited my wrench of infinite misgiving upon his person, it was largely dissapointing. I just played the game on whatever the default difficulty is. I am not really bothered about earning acheivements or rewards or whatever incarnation of measured gaming milestones your gaming platform offers. I only really touch difficulties if i find the game far too easy or hard but that rarely happens as i do not excel at games; i only enjoy them. Except Pro Evo of course, i blow peoples mind at that game.

Max out your fire plasmid, upgrade your shotgun and buy electric buckshots. If you see a big daddy you set him on fire then you shock him with your shotgun which does massive damage, stuns them and they constantly lose health.
If you feel like being lazy you replace electric buckshot with any shotgun shell and your fire plasmid with ice, watch them shatter. But in the beginning of the game where you are weak you must hack and take photos of everything.

If you've played System Shock 2, you wouldn't have found Bioshock hard.

Find yourself System Shock 2 for your PC.

You will never think of BioShock as being difficult ever again! Bioshock isn't really that hard, my solution to everything was as much ammunition as possible...

I recently got it for Xbox 360 (I'd rather have gone for the PC version, but I'm at uni now and my laptop can't run it) and I started a game on medium.

I got my arse kicked so severely, I ended up turning it off in frustration.

I'm gonna start again (on medium) and play it nice and slow, not my normal FPS style of blazing through everything really really fast. I think its a game that deserves a good deal of exploration and thought :P

And for those of you wanting more details, I got severely beaten by that surgeon boss guy thingy-ma-jig. I had no ammo, that flame plasmid and telekenisis, and flames wouldn't work because he would dive into a pool of water and stay there for the remainder of the fight. So, it was machine gun vs wrench, no plasmids.

Second arse kicking came with my first encounter with a big daddy. Died repeatedly, finally got him down, and then...WHERE THE HECK WAS MY LITTLE SISTER? I would charge the fucker, wrench him (again, no ammo) die, spawn, charge, I eventually kill him, and no ADAM for me :<

Yeah, I didn't have any trouble playing on medium. Although that could probably be due to the fact that I sit back and spend 10 minutes trying to kill everything from a safe distance before entering a room. An extremely effective, if not boring strategey.

Just boring to watch, I love the satisfaction of sneaking unseen through video games, watching people go about their petty lives, then killing them all without them seeing me. Particularly Oblivion in this manner.

the best tactic i found for big daddies was to fight them by a regeneration clinic so you could keep on doing damage to them and keeping them in a confined area.

I really didn't find it hard at all. O.o
I managed to get through the entire game on medium, in one sitting, without dying.
I took it back the next day and swapped it for something else, claiming, "It didn't work on my pc."

Hard? Nnnnnot really. Annoying at times? Absolutely. The guy couldn't hit an elephant, if it was shoving its tongue down his throat. Even when you upgraded your guns, the recoil was waaaay off.

But, no, not really hard.

Oh, many is the time I was tempted to use the ''god'' cheat to pass the medium difficulty. All you need is luck, that's all I can suggest.

I recently bought Bioshock (something I've been meaning to do for a long time) and one thing really amazed me; the difficulty settings. I first played on medium thinking easy would be too easy and hard being near impossible and soon in found myself dying every few enemies. I switched to easy to see how it went and i found enemies to be no challenge at all, especially the Big Daddies. I switched to Medium and again it was near impossible. Is it just me being bad at the game or do others find this as well?

I beat the last boss with the wrench on hard without losing a full health bar.

Comon, it's not that hard: Just spam pictures and get the right gene tonics.

I found the game to be about counters, by this I mean different weapons tend to work much better vs different enemies. Like has been said before the electric buckshot did wonders vs some of the big daddys. It was just a case of figuring out the weakness of enemys and exploiting it. If they didn't have a weakness then the tommygun seemed to work well for me as my fallback weapon.

I personally found it a little on the easy side even on hard, I also didn't use vita chambers. I've been playing FPS games for a long time now, since wolfenstien and doom so that also helps. If you want to see a hard FPS though try Call of Duty 4 on veteran mode.

I remember on my first playthrough I didn't know about the respawn chambers so I went on Hard through the entire game without dieing once... of course many many saves and loads but not a single time used pod...

I thought it was perfect difficulty on hardest. Brass balls achievement wasn't too bad, either. I like games to be hard, though. I'm the "banging head against a brick wall" beat COD games on Veteran type though. Also DMC4 on DMD mode was ridiculous. But I thought Bioshock, with the persistent enemy damage and saves anywhere/anytime, was tough but not too bad. Turn the vita chambers off and go for Brass Balls. Makes it a bit tougher since if you die, the damage doesn't remain.

Awesome game, though. One of my all time favs (I could care less what Yahtzee says about it - I never played System Shock).

Yes, I agree. Its boring to watch. When you're the one playing its very fun. This is why I can't play any single player games with friends... they hate to watch me. But when playing left 4 dead, they couldn't be happier that I play that way!

I played on Medium and only died once, and that was cause I ran into a Big Daddy Around a corner witth the grenade launcher out. Damn my twitchy reflexes

I found the medium difficulty to be just right. I don't think that I ever died but it did keep things challenging. When I switched to hard, I pretty much had my ass handed to me by the Big Daddies. With the easier difficulties, you can pretty much knock them out pretty fast, but on hard, I usually died at least once. You have to make sure that you have plenty of ammo when going up against them as well. I barely had any on one Big Daddy and I ended up just running to him, hit him with a wrench until I died and then repeat.

Bioshock is an easy game, one thing, any electrical attacks are your best friend, Electric Bucks and Lighting Bolts!

If you think that game is hard, try playing Ninja Gaiden II or The Last Remnant.

this game is easy to do on hard because u auto respawn, which takes the difficulty out of the game

If you've experience from a lot of FPS or FPSRPG (especially System Shock 2) then BioShock is not all that hard: you'll be scrounging carefully for ammo only to come up with a massive excess in no time. About the only tough conflict are those Big Daddies, and they get much easier later in the game.
