Heh. I literally just posted my reasoning on this in a different thread, seconds ago. Go figure. -- Steve
Because apparently, if you have a different opinion, you're automatically wrong and stupid. People like to over-zealously defend their interests.
I also started a thread a little while ago called "What the hell is your problem" or something like that where I basically bitched about all the pointless hatred towards varous games. I really don't get it myself. If you don't like it, don't play it.
Yeah i hit "post" then went to the gen. discussion page and i saw that poll someone made while i was typing this.
That should be a motto of some kind for somebody, somewhere, because it's DAME true! You don't like it? Then don't buy it! Why this elitist mentality? AUGH! But it seems, from the other posts in here, that I'm preaching to the choir.
The persons of which you speak are fanboys. They are a complex creature, and maybe one day we'll understand them. ;)
They drink copiouse ammounts of hateraid ofcourse.
Because ignorance is a dreadfully easy disease to catch.
You're wrong. AND you're stupid. And I'm just kidding, because I totally agree with you. Seriously, it's a joke, don't hate me!
I don't see why there is such a debate about different game types. I am mainly a fan(boy - :D) of Halo and FPS's in general, and I hate sports games, but I never mention this in an attempt to demean someone else's game choice. This is definitely a more mature forum than most on the internet, but we still get people on this website who act like that. If someone doesn't like a game, they don't have to play it. The beauty of gaming is that the entire subculture of gamers is diverse and widely spread, which is why there are so many different game types out there.
Amen broseph. I really get annoyed when people start having a go at other people for taste in games, or bring critic scores into things/ sales as an argument. That has no effect on whether someone will like a game. People have varying tastes, and like games which others consider bad (and may even be bad =P). I myself have a good few "poor" rated games in my collection, as well as some "classics".
The only game I hate that a friend owns is a game I owned first and hated. So I own that hate, not him :D.
cause games like Ico and shadow of the colossus would cease to exist in favor of more tomb raider / WW2 games, so people want EA/ insert evil company here to go out of business, but as long as people buy their games it won't happen, so you call them retards in a last ditch attempt to make everything better. On a more serious note i don't have a problem with games not to my taste (PoP mostly), i played it and didn't like it, i can see what others might appreciate in it, but its not for me, so i move along.
*shrug* I don't try to understand them. I just keep away from them incase I catch it.
This makes me think of something Yahtzee said which I thought was really spot on: That when someone goes on the offensive about a personal experience that differs from theirs, it says more about their insecurity than anything else.
It's the same reason that you hate fans of an opposing sports team. It's fun to have your own little armed camp.
Because on the battlefield that is the internet, your opinion is the weapon everyone has, but no one wants it pointed at them.
It's because people want everyone to be like them to prove that they're cool and normal. tht's why things like phsyconauts (which I've sadly never played), and the Hulk movie game (which is monumentally fun, like GTA but with bore explosions and less bullshit), don't get played becuase nobody 'cool' buys them.
Because fanboys are ignorant morons who don't like to be wrong.
Its not so much a question of don;t like don't ply but Oh hell I am going to suck every last worth of entertainment I can out of something that will never give back the 50$ I put into it.*glares at bioshock, still unpatched and no mods makes the slightly above average game even more average ><* I hate it when a game dose well and the publisher/dev ignores it like they didn't make it so why should they support it....but they will make DLC for it.....*glances at FO3...LOL*
Well, because someone is wrong on the Internet. I'm guilty of this, often. I see people talking about a game having a "good" story, and in some cases, they are provably wrong. Not that they won't still like the story, but that doesn't make it good. It's like Dragonball Z. You might like it, but it's not a good story, and there are literary reasons why. - J
It's easy when a conversation with said person goes like this..... Person A: "So how come you don't like the (insert system here)" Person B:"Oh I don't like that particular platform, It costs too much. I don't wan't a large amounts of my income to gaming like that. It's just video games y'know?" Person A: Notices that this same person spent money on a $2,500 tv, $500 surround sound system, additonal 3 controllers for $150, $90 "MONSTER" HDMI CABLE, and an additional $50 to even get online. "Whatever dude, to each his own" Because deep down inside, we know they like whatever they like because they are a FANBOY and thats it. We just want them to tell the truth.
There are games which simply ARE good and ones which ARE bad. Hard to understand? Example: Mirror's Edge has already been defined by a majority for being a bad game, it doesn't contain the elements of being a good game, it IS a bad game. Then again, the majority (cough, america) like family guy, and look at how retarded that show is. In anycase, whats the point in complaining about someone defending a game? Nothing wrong with defending it. Erm...you're "entitled to your opinion" OP? So I guess that means everyone on the INTERNET is expected to be all nice and friendly? Hmm, yeah, right...
Dang, I was hoping no one from MMORPG.COM would com here to post. . .
The funny thing was that the guy was a wii fanboy himself.
Yup. Because Metal Gear Solid is an MMORPG apparently...
I am just curious as to why some people get so heated over defending a game or even worse get so vehement over there hatred towards a game.
Even stranger are those who get bent out of shape over another persons purchase of a different game console.
I have followed the development of an upcoming title called Darkfall for at least 6 years now, and i just find it so fascinating how emotional players can get over there zeal for the game or there unabashed hatred. Thought that maybe since i feel this forum community is more mature then others ::cough::MMORPG.COM::cough:: that i could get more informed opinions about this.
Thanx in advance.
