New WoW Machinima that raises the bar

Now I understand that most people here at Escapist have a negative view towards Warcraft but seriously this really is something anyone that likes animation will love. A person by the name of Percula took the models and such from WoW and reworked it into a full movie to watch. Articles on WoWInsider and such rave it and the movie has received a storm of reviews. So check it out and enjoy!

Oh 'Blind'. I've seen it and seriously nearly hurt myself rolling my eyes at how stupid it was.

Seriously! This was well done to rework movements that are not easy to do

That is damn impressive.. and people thought Tales of the Past was extensive..

Well that was stupid but interesting.

Damn amazing! Good vid! This guy has no life!

Wow, that was impressive. I never seen machinima quiet like this.

Yer, it was stupid, but machinima always is. But it was great fun and pretty cool...in a geeky kind of way.

Considering how sucky usual Machinimas are this one is decent.

I remember finding 'Illegal Danish' really funny. They only made like one episode but I thought it was hilarious. I was a WoW player at the time though. *bows head in shame*.

Warcraft is not equal to WoW. First one is a classic game and second one is a MMORPG that promised a war and gave us bunch of grinding on instances.

I have seen much better machinimas. This one may be good for you, but go looking around a bit and you will see that in reality it is nothing special.

Note: I am not faulting the guys work, I've just seen much better.

pretty good, and really well done

Heh, this is pretty crappy compared to some things I saw back in the day.

A surprisingly large amount of work has been put into this... pretty neat, it was also nice to see a single blood elf sneak into Stormwind, slash through half of the security and run away with a scratch...

I was genuinely impressed.
Very well done.

Soundtrack annoyed the hell out of me, but seriously...
That was fucking brilliant.
I wonder how much time he spent on this...?
PS. DON'T MESS WITH A ROGUE

Rogues are overpowered, nerf!!11one :p

That being said, the quality of the animation is excellent, since this is the first WoW machinima I've seen where the author actually animated the characters instead of using the preexisting in-game emotes.

As for the quality of the whole thing, it was supposed to be one long fight scene and as such it has succeded. The plot is minimal, but makes sense. The elf rogue tries to assassinate Lady Prestor, who is in fact a dragon in disguise (Onyxia). Of course, she gets her arse kicked and is forced to flee. We have the hordes of mooks (Footmen) for the main character to slaughter and one of the SI:7 (Stormwind spies guild) elite to provide the flashier scenes.

But in the end, rogues can't solo Oyxia, even at level 80, so the ending is such. Perhaps if it was a shaman or a paladin, things might have turned out differently... ;)

Oh i've seen it before, the effects are really cool. I mean the amount of time he must have spent just extracting the models into an environment which he can freely edit the movement THEN putting it back into the map because half the movements in there arent available in game.

still though.... the MUSIC OMG WHY

Agreed. Animation: Fantastic. Music: Not so much.

Yeah that was the only downside of this animation but ya know it matched kinda with the movie. Sure Japanese people (Sorry if this is offensive) can't do pop but hey it works.

Speaking of machinima the in game Wrathgate cutscene is pretty epic. WoW in general seems to have embraced some ideas that they previously somewhat neglected such as machinima and phasing and the results are pretty impressive.

My goodness... the anti WoW-ism sure has taken root hasn't it? :D

I love it... the technical skill of the author is terrific; the visuals are smooth, crisp and fluid; the narrative is interresting, never going stale or stopping. He even managed to make the wuxia-like wall jumping seem realistic, which is no small feat.

The music is hardly Azerothian, but concidering Blizzard's proud tradition of never letting anyone immerse themselves in the world anyway I'm willing to let that one slide. It sets the tempo of the video so nicely so the contribution is alot bigger than the slight mood break.

Gets a definite 5 out of 5 from me.

/S

It started off good but the music just ruined it for me.

It was actually pretty excellent.
But the music is fucking awful. Just...horrible.

EDIT: I actually had to mute the video and play some other music over it.

I'm not going to nitpick the animation to death. I saw a few things in there that irked me, but they were minor and not noticeable for most people. I'm especially not going to fault the animation when there's perfectly TERRIBLE music to rip into. Hearing that song on repeat for 7 minutes is like a new, improved version of the Chinese Water Torture. I can't even see how it fits the theme of the movie; yeah, the song is called "hide and seek", but the atmosphere is all wrong for a song like that. A single assassin, infiltrating and fighting her way through a city full of guards, in order to assassinate a wizard-looking woman of extreme power...that doesn't exactly say "fast-paced, bouncy music" to me.

Still, I've seen much worse

No, you are so very wrong. Not only is that show fairly average but there are many better shows.

The first is one of the most original I have ever seen and the second is one of the most emotionally moving machinima I have ever seen.

And thats just from Lit Fuse, there are plenty of other Machinima directors that make much better movies then The Craft of War: Blind.

Thats not to say it was terrible. There are worse movies and Directors out there, just that this video is not sticking out as top quality stuff. Its really only hovering around the middle mark for Machinima quality. In my opinion anyway.
