I personally love the Necro, with my huge army of revived minions and my awesome fire golem. Though that is closely followed by the Amazon cause I love archers.
But I wanna know what other people think about the Diablo 2 classes.
I found that Diablo 2 had a very easy way to become super powerful. Get a crappy very fast bow with 3-4 sockets, stuff it with the best stuff you can find and vualla, you're gonna slaughter everything in your path... I guess this is why I favoured the Amazon...
Well in terms of most powerful.. Probably Hammerdin or Cyclone druid, in terms of actual favorite class regardless of how they perform, shape shift druid.

Funny story about a hammerdin, while doing diablo runs with a seven random people we decided to have a whoop-ass contest to see who could whoop the most ass. well, I teleported to the door to diablo's area and sent up a portal. Out came the seven people when the hammerdin in the party told us all to wait. He ran in and 30 seconds later he ran out and said, "done"
We went in to find he had killed most everything in the original straightaway. Everyone had a good laugh after that.
black lincon: since I refuse to explain why the fire sorc is the best class for a group for the fourth time I'll just say it's the fire sorc.
I think I have actually seen your explanation and it sounds quite convincing.
it in my opinion the most underrated class.
DiamondJim: Necromancer. It's just plain awesome. I tend to like anything that summons minions to do my bidding.
OK let me get this off my chest right now, summoning necro's suck. summons are nice to have at low levels but the only worthwhile summon is the fire golem. maxed out the poison dagger ability can do 4k poison damage and the poison nova maxed out can do about 2k for each bolt(both estimates). there is no reason to ever use a summoning necro unless you have no idea what your doing.
All classes are cool in their own way. Even paladin (I suspect at first he wasn't cool enough, but they made him black and now he is :D). I played werewolf druid (lvl 42) but it was kind of boring. I'd play an assasin now, she had a sweet 10 pixels of ass :D
I always had a special love for mf sorcs back in the days I played the game but after a few perfect Hammerdins I got bored of the game. Besides D2 was build on cheats anyway and only sensible way of trading stuff was D2jsp forum gold.

Magic damage is so silly, not much you can do against it. Once you get an enigma on a hammerdin or Bone necro ugh, things get annoying.

YES. THANK YOU. FINALLY, someone else likes to play a poison necro. Everyone kept telling me poison necros sucked, and that "lol bone necros r so much bettr", even though I KEPT killing them and no one could do anything about it. BS all you want, port + PN = you're dead and I didn't even see you. Surprisingly enough, Bone Spear was more deadly than Bone Spirit to me the times I met uber bone necros.

I'll be honest, the time I played a poison necro I cheated, I was simply playing a modded character in single player because I thought it would be fun to actually have all those summons. Then about halfway through act one I realized the skellys sucked and I checked my skills to see what would be better, I was amazed to see the stats of poison dagger and poison nova. I never used anything else. little hint if you have a fire golom(maxed of course) and one of the bodyguards from the first act you can own everything by yourself.
Fire sorc because theirs nothing better than dropping meteors on people, running with fire blazing behind you and generally doing stupid damage. Plus meteor did some physical damage so you werent completely screwed when you came against fire immune enemies. Just the fire and physical immune ones that screwed me over :P
I've had the most fun with a ice/lit scorc. I only put 1 point in each skill that I need to get the last spells in each tree, and come level 30, I start dumping all my extra points into lit mastery, ice mastery, frozen orb, and lightning storm. By level 50, Im striking for 1000k damage at random with the lightning, and throwing frozen orbs at hordes of enemies. I call it the lawn mower.
I know some people swear that blizzard is a better spell, but I don't like it as much as the delay is too long. Also, Blizzard is only good if you use the synergies, and I can't buff them high enough if I want to keep the lightning damage. I never stuck with a character long enough to get to Hell mode (I did get to baal though) and I never met an enemy that was immune to lit AND ice.

What level is "low"? I have a level 42 Summoning Necro and I've had absolutely no trouble using skeletons and amplify damage.

low levels are 30-45 depending on personal opinion, I consider 40 to be low level so you don't fall under that category but I have to ask, what difficulty are you on? if your playing the later parts if nightmare most of the skeletons become more useless in my opinion. If you go into poison skills you can do a lot more damage and you don't have to rely on anything else. Summons are nice, and in reality they might be better when combined with curses(I have never put one skill point in that area), however I think that in the long run(think lv 60) poison is better than summoning.

Any summoner who doesn't use curses is an idiot. Amplify damage doubles the killing power of your skeletons and is essential against physical immunes at later levels (because it removes their immunity). Confuse is immensely useful in disabling large groups while your skeletons wade through them. Decrepify is a very powerful all-purpose curse (The enemy gets slowed, weakened, takes more damage). One level in those is more than enough to give an immense boost to your skeletons. Which you will need once you run up against physical immunes. One point in revive will also give you monsters that scale with the difficulty (more than one is a bit of a waste since the revives don't follow you like skeletons). I generally summon one revive per battle and then just summon a new one when I lose the old one. More points will just give me more revives, which is pretty pointless if I can't keep track of them all. Then I round it all out with Corpse Explosion to aid my skeletons when I'm done cursing the enemies (assuming they're still alive by then). I'm in Act II Nightmare and still going strong. I'm yet to come up against any real obstacles.
As for poison necros being "better", I tried a poison necro and found it rather boring. I prefer my summon necro immensely, because he's much more enjoyable. He may not win a fight against your poison necro, but he's more fun to play, and he's yet to die (which means he must be pretty powerful), so as far as I'm concerned he's better.
I voted necromancer. I had a golemancer that used clay golem and decrepify while shooting bone spirit or bone spear. Usually made bone wall first though. It works for everything not magic immune. For the immune ones...I usually ended up relying on my merc.

I believe I just heard, for the first time, a way to make a summoning necro good. Most necro's(lv 50+) I've ever met just make dueling necros. I've always hate curses with suck a passion because I never realized how useful they can be in conjunction with summons. Maybe that's why I primarily play as a sorc.

For online play, level 40's is considered a low level. The average level you will find online is about 60-70ish, at least it was the last time I played.

Curses are insanely powerful in parties, but almost completely useless on your own, especially taking into account the Necro's skillset. Lower Resist would be useful for a Poison Necro, and Confuse or Decrepify might help you stay alive, but other than that, they work best with groups. Amplify Damage and Decrepify with a lot of physical damage-dealers, Lower Resist with spellcasters, Confuse when you're up against big groups and so on. Summon necros, however, have their own party to take advantage of the curses. Amplify Damage quite literally doubles the harming power of your skeletons, making them able to deal a lot of punishment quickly. Decrepify is weaker (+30% damage rather than doubled, I think), but has the added bonus of slowing and reducing their damage. If you play as any kind of Necro other than a dedicated damage dealer (Poison or Bone Necros), there's really no reason to not get curses. The best bit is that most curses have a set effect, extra points only increase the radius and duration. If you're a summoning necro you won't have anything to DO other than keep casting curses, which pretty much negates them having a fairly low area and duration, what with curses not being very mana-intensive. So you spend ten points as an absolute maximum on curses (if you want all the curses), and the rest can all go into your summons.
Paladin. Nothing says badass like cutting through the legions of hell with shining platemail and a hugeass sword/hammer. And Holy Fire. Always Holy Fire.

Replace Holy Fire with Holy Shock, and replace hugeass sword/hammer with Wirt's Leg. My friend did that back when we LANed Diablo II. It was a sight to behold, I can tell you that.
Barbarian, I love dual wielding. Actually I really like the way hes initially portrayed as a dumb brute, but through his sparse dialogue its revealed hes got this zen/native American personality.
