Battleships are Forever! (A custom ship discussion and showcase topic.)

 Pages 1 2 3 NEXT

I wanted to make a thread where players can post pictures of their ships, and comment on other people's ships. God, I hope it's in the right place...

Anyhow, I'll start.

An unnamed Frigate (top left) and an unnamed Destroyer (bottom) kicking some stock ship aft.

I've made a couple of things, but nothing very impressive, as the mouse sensitivity in the ship creator is ludicrous, and I have no real control over placing ship parts.

Some of the above ships are very impressive though.

What's this program that you're using? This isn't geometry wars is it?

I want lazers!

Question: That big arsed blue beam. What weapon is that o_o

Battleships Forever.

Where can I get this game, and for how much?

Question: That big arsed blue beam. What weapon is that o_o

It looks like several overlaid, different-colored Beamers.

It's a freeware game and you can get it here: http://www.wyrdysm.com/bfdownload.php

The Escapist even interviewed the games creator.

And free.

EDIT: Damnit, Ninja'd

I made one. And due to my lack of imagination, I named it HMS. GreenGodDamnGunInSpace. Yes, I know you all expected a Can, but there just aren't enough parts.

You didn't have enough material to make a can, so you made a huge-ass spaceship, instead?

I like how you think.

When you start spending time on this stuff, these are the kind of things you can do with it. And no, I am by far not the best shipbuilder around.

There be a caption.

(I apologize if these images are considered too large.)

I was just about to post a few of mine, and then that post appeared in the thread, and suddenly I am feeling incredibly inadequate...
Oh, on a side note, is there any way to rotate pieces? I haven't found one yet...

Anyway, mine:
image
2 Brutixes (or shouild that be Brutices...) and an Interdictor

And
image
A Compellor (front obscured by the beams...) fighting a Brutix and some Interdictors.

Incredibly basic and faintly pathetic really in comparision with some others, but only my first attempts *he says, attempting to justify him even posting these* ;)

If anyone can put them somewhere for download, that would be awesome.

I'm still trying to figure out how it all works.

"J" and and "L" rotate whatever object you have selected. In the Shipmaker you can press "F1" to open the Help file.

And on a note regarding shipbuilding. Shift+Arrow Keys allows you to move a section more accurately by moving it one pixel at the time. The F1 Key opens the help text. Oh, and Aidan. I'm from the Wyrdysm Forums. My username there is bien4500...

Is this game turn based? It looks wayyy too complicated to manage in real time!

You sir, deserve to have a shrine built in your honour ;)

TsunamiWombat:

Nope, it's all real time. The game is designed for tactical combat not gigantic fleets battles involving hundreds or thousands of ship. As long as you don't push the game's limits, combat is simple. I recommend playing Career mode first in order get used to control large numbers of ships.

You also get a shrine! (sorry, missed this post when quoting the other one)

I loved Battleships Forever but suck at making ships.

How did you make that frikken giant laser?

Oh, and Aidan. I'm from the Wyrdysm Forums. My username there is bien4500...

I know, I recognized the ships in the 1st post.

Zulu, I just layered some beams.

Arcalane:

weapon|ShockBeamer|5|-1|-1|900|6|-1|2500|0|0.90|Main Beam Core|16777215|300|1|0|1|1|-1|1|1
weapon|ShockBeamer|5|-1|-1|900|18|-1|2500|0|0.90|Main Beam Exterior|16711808|300|1|0|1|1|-1|1|1
Damage Injector:
weapon|MegaBeam|5|-1|-1|900|5000|-1|2500|0|0.90||16777215|300|-1|0|-1|-1|-1|1|1

They have to be on top of each other. Copy the first line of code, select a weapon, press 'e' and paste. Do the same for the others.
Ctrl-Click selects the sections/weapons/modules under your cursor.

Looks like you can finally put your fleet to a real test.

It was bound to happen. I made a Super Star Destroyer.

image

3 Turbolaser arrays (GatBeams)
2 Laser Cannon Arrays (GatPulse)
4 Concussion Missle Launchers (missle launchers)
4 Deflector Arrays
3 Tractor Beam Arrays (Impeder)
1 Superlaser Cannon (MegaBeam)
2 Point Lasers (point beams) *not pictured, I added those later when it became apparent the Mon Calamari was kicking the Star Destroyers ass*

All the weapons are mounted to point to the fore of the ship with 45 degree firing arcs, making it's area of fire very linear, but it possesses a wide array of medium to long weapons (and even some short range with the GatPulse's)

3 speed
.75 turning
500 range
.05 accel

Of course, what could go against such a beast? Why a Mon Calamari Cruiser of course!

image

6 Turbolasers (gatbeams)
4 laser cannons (gatpulse)
2 Laser Cannons (Beamer)
6 Deflector Arrays
3 Point Lasers (point beams)
2 Tractor Beam arrays (impeder)

Unlike the Star Destroyer, the Mon Calamari Cruiser is a broadside vessel- all of it's guns with the exception of the fore and aft beamers are pointed out to the sides and have 90 Degree firing arcs. It's tremendous defensive ability with the point beams, impeder's, and 6 deflectors makes it viable for busting enemy formations by flying straight in and soaking fire.

3 speed
.75 turning
500 range
.05 accel

I tested the two out in the sandbox and they more or less slugged it out without any clear winner, though the Star Destroyer started to take a beating. The Calamari Cruiser turned out to be capable of slugging it out with 3 Star Destroyers at once. At four or five, the amount of firepower put out was simply too overwhelming.

Erm. Your parenting is kinda awful... See those white lines? Those are parenting lines. It seems that all of the weapons and modules are parented to the core, and when the sections it is under are destroyed. Which will leave floating weapons.

And read this:
The Good Shipbuilding Guide
The Good Fanship Building Guide
The Shipbuilding Resource Thread

Anyone know how to change projectile color? I'm trying to make an enterprise and want to set the beamer to blue somehow to imitate phasers

Parenting? Well it's not like there was a damn manual I could find. Okay, I took a look at those guides. How do I fix the parenting lines?

There's an edit button on the left side of the screen, right beside the sections thing. Select a weapon and click edit. Then near the center of the toolbar, there should be a projectile color thing.

Sweet, thanks. I also looked at your guides and fixed my parenting problem.

I also found this guide that was a big time saver for me.

http://bsf.wikidot.com/weapons-and-modules-guide#toc7

Just knowing WTF everything is and what it does saves me ALOT of time.

This probably sounds really dumb but even after looking at all those guides I still don't know how to get guns to have different firing arcs and point in different directions.

image

The Executor-class Star Dreadnought, colloquially known as the Executor-class Super Star Destroyer or Executor-class Star Destroyer, was a heavy warship class in the Star Dreadnaught league, often used as command ships and flagships in the Imperial Navy. At their prime, they were among the largest vessels in the galaxy, second only to heavier Star Dreadnaughts like the Eclipse-class and superweapons like the Death Stars, and were almost invincible in combat, although they were costly to operate.

Loadout: *please note it's not canonically accurate for this class, I was trying to make a "general" super star destroyer*

image

3x Turbolaser bays (GatBeam)
2x Laser bays (gatpulse)
2x Assault Concussion Missle Bays (plamsa)
2x Tractor Beam Arrays (gravbeam)
1x Gravity Well Generator (intercepter
5x Turbo Deflector-screen hull generators
1x Superlaser Cannon (megabeam)

Minimum Crew: 50,000

AceDiamond:

Press F1, that brings up the keylist.

PS: Anyone know how to set Aegis Deflectors? I'm not sure how to select the part of the ship I want defended, and it won't let you save or use the ship till the hull segment is specified.

PPS: Annnd never mind I figured it out. Rightclicking for the win >_>;

I went and downloaded the game as soon as Fullmetal gave me a link to here =P I failed via. parenting at my first creation, it all explodes on... more or less, contact.
