The adorable little adventure game from ex-Dreamworks animator Lionel Gallat will soon become a reality.

When I last wrote about Ghost of a Tale, it was in a bit of a sorry state. Developer Lionel Gallat, an ex-Dreamworks and Universal studios animator, was desperately posting content in a last-ditch effort to reach his modest funding goal of 45.000€. With just nine days to go and over 20.000€ to raise, it did not look good. Gallat said if he couldn't raise the money, he would have to scrap the project entirely.

Thankfully, after getting exposure from a variety of different sources (including The Escapist, hopefully!) Gallat has finally reached his funding goal, which means Ghost of a Tale will become a reality. "WE MADE IT!!!" writes Gallat in an announcement on the game's IndieGoGo page, "That's incredible! No, really; it is. Why? Because a month ago Ghost of a Tale wasn't on anyone's radar. No journalist was aware of anything in regard to the project."

Ghost of a Tale is an adventure game staring a mouse with a lute. Gallat describes the game as taking inspirations from movies such as Disney's Robin Hood and Winnie the Pooh, as well as videogames such as Zelda and Ico. "My goal is to craft a small yet beautiful game with environments that look a bit like movie sets and characters that have a sense of stylization in their design, while retaining a certain simplicity and immediacy as far as gameplay is involved," he says.

Gallat, who has been a supervising animator in the movie industry for more than 15 years, and whose portfolio contains work for Despicable Me and The Lorax, wants to thank everyone who made this happen. "Thank you to each and everyone of you who have contributed to this campaign, whether from a financial or moral standpoint (and often both)." He says he will try not to think of the success as a heavy pressure weighing him down, "but rather I should think of it as an huge mark of affection for the project."

A Ghost of a Tale official website and forum should open soon, but for now, Gallat is happy to take any suggestions or inquiries by email at seith [at] seithcg.com. If you want to help fund the game, there are still 20 hours left (at time of writing) for the game's IndieGoGo campaign.
