Those Who Fight Further, the boss theme from Final Fantasy VII has been recreated by an ensemble of floppy drives powered by custom software.
Depending on who you are you might regard Final Fantasy VII as the best or worst thing to ever happen to the Final Fantasy franchise. Regardless of what you think about the game itself however, there's no denying that it has one heck of a soundtrack. Nobuo Uematsu produced some of his most beloved tracks for the game including one of the series' best bottle themes: Those Who Fight Further.
There have been more than a few versions of this song over the years. Heck, Uematsu himself produced an instrumental rock cover of the song with his band The Black Mages. That said, we're going to go on a limb and say that a recent floppy drive rendition of the song may be the most unique one out there. Created by YouTube user MrSolidSnake745, it uses custom software codes by fellow YouTuber Sammy1Am to turn MIDI files into running instructions that allow floppy drives to be used as musical instruments.
According to MrSolidSnake745, the song uses 16 connected floppy drives, double his usual eight. The extra drives were used because the setup was created for the Nexon Computer Museum in South Korea which famously features exhibits highlighting the history and development of computing and gaming. The Those Who Fight Further floppy ensemble will be added to the museum in a few short months as a new exhibit. If nothing else it's definitely a neat way to pay tribute to both games and old computers.
