Splatoon 2 Release Date, "Salmon Run" Mode, Revealed

| 12 Apr 2017 23:58

During a Splatoon 2-focused Nintendo direct, Nintendo revealed a number of details about the upcoming shooter.

Splatoon was one of the sleeper hits of the Wii U, so it's no surprise that the follow-up, Splatoon 2, is one of the most hotly anticipated games of the Nintendo Switch. Previously, Nintendo only gave a "2017" release date, but today, during a Splatoon 2 and ARMS-focused Nintendo Direct, we were given a solid date of July 21.

As well as the release date, we also learned a lot of new information about the game. First up was the reveal of a new game mode: Salmon Run, Splatoon 2's take on the popular horde mode. In Salmon Run, increasingly more difficult waves of "Salmonid" will attack your team, dropping "Power Eggs" that you can use to upgrade your abilities.

Next, Splatoon 2 will of course be getting its own suite of new amiibo toys. Tapping the amiibo on the Nintendo Switch NFC reader will make the amiibo character appear in-game, where you can use it to save your loadout. This way, you can take the amiibo to a friend's house and have your favorite loadout saved.
