Konami Taking Aim at Red Octane's Guitar Hero?

| 11 Jul 2006 15:03

Konami, most likely in a move to capitalize on Red Octane's smash hit, Guitar Hero, was awarded a U.S. trademark for "Guitar Revolution," which will purportedly utilize a "controller in the form of an electronic toy guitar." Expect to see it in arcades next to DDR machines, as well: Konami plans to create "stand alone electronic game machines with electronic toy guitars" for use in "coin-operated video games."

Konami, famous in hands-on gaming for its hugely popular Dance Dance Revolution and Karaoke Revolution are moving in a logical path to create a gaming franchise allowing players to form into ensembles of digital cover bands. Despite the fact Red Octane struck first in the rock-driven guitar market, Konami is in a good position to move forward with its properties.
