Sony Responds To Viacom Xfire Claims

| 13 Sep 2006 17:29

Sony has released a brief statement in response to Viacom's claim that the PS3 would support Xfire.

Earlier reports that Xfire would be fully supported by the PS3 have been tempered by a statement made from Sony to 1Up. "We can confirm that Sony Online Entertainment is in talks with Viacom and Xfire for a single, specific PS3 game," said a Sony representative. "However, there are no announcements at this time regarding any discussions between SCEA, Viacom and Xfire."

Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom, a PS3 launch title, is the game in question. Sony's Chris Kramer claims it is the only game looking to support Xfire. "This proposed deal is completely separate and independent from the PlayStation Network Platform, and is something that SOE was examining specifically for Dark Kingdom. More information on Xfire and Dark Kingdom will be coming soon," he said.

As expected, Xfire looks to be a potential feature for the PS3, but not an integral part of the online framework as 1Up suggested.
