PopCap Preps for European Launch

| 9 Oct 2006 16:00

PopCap will release a UK version of its casual games website in the coming weeks, with launches in additional European territories to follow.

Seattle-based casual games provider PopCap Games is preparing to launch a UK version of its highly successful U.S. gaming website. A beta version is currently undergoing testing, and the full site is expected to be up and running in the next few weeks. PopCap spokesperson Garth Chocteau told news site MCV, "Europe is an incredibly important area for us now. Once the UK site goes live, we're planning to roll out fully localized versions of the site in other territories across Europe."

PopCap's sights have been set on Europe for some time now, as evidenced by its establishment of a new studio in Dublin, Ireland earlier this year. PopCap's UK launch will mark the company's second push into overseas markets. Just last month, PopCap announced a deal to distribute several of its games through Square Enix's online casual gaming website in Japan.
