With the current "Choose Wisely" ad campaign, interest has certainly been piqued about Rubies of Eventide. In our Discussions Forum, Taim asked some really great questions that Site Manager Avaril took the time to answer. If you've never played RoE, they're worth reading.
Can you solo in the game or do you have to rely on other people?
I've noticed that soloing is absolutely possible for quite a few available professions. There are no arbitrary skill restrictions in Rubies, so your character is what you design him or her to be. So yes, if you design your skills that way. =) If you go for 100% healing group magic, then you won't be soloing very well. But if you go for a balance, there's a strength to it.Is combat actually exciting or do you just sit there an >watch your avatar swing/shoot a sword/magic at the mob?
They are adding combat manuevers shortly which promise to be very interesting. Combat is turn based, as you would find in a final fantasy game - though slightly more real time. There is a strategic level to the game which is emerging more and more with updates and patches. You don't even have to be a combatant, you can always play a pure crafting character. There are over 5,000 craftable items already. The economy will be crafter powered. :)Good GM support?
We're a small community. You get to know the GMs by name and they're always willing to talk to you. They actually regularly broadcast asking you to send them direct whispers with your questions. If you take the time, you can even get to know the developers pretty well.Is lvling a treadmill?
They are still fleshing out other areas of the game. The player philosophy is way more fun and roleplay oriented than most games, but there are those who want to keep farming up their points. Presently I'd have to say yes if you don't want to do the new crafting skills. The developers have clearly shown their commitment to the future of the game within tactics, strategy, and puzzles however. The game requires thought and the future promises to be much better for role players, MUD lovers, and others who have been turned away by the current MMO scene. How fast paced is combat?
As fast or slow as you want it to be, there's a combat speed toggle. When running away from the mob can he hit you from atleast >20 yards away with a melee hit?
No, combat exists in a combat circle, much like a final fantasy game or similar. You can escape combat by fleeing, but unless it's arching at you or casting spells, you wont be getting cut down while running.
