GameTap Launches Indie Label

| 5 Mar 2007 19:13

PC game service GameTap supports independent developers.

PC game subscription service GameTap is launching a new "Indies" label, dedicated to distributing independently developed games through its download service. The "Indie" titles will be shown alongside the rest of GameTap's offerings and in their own unique channel. At the 2007 Independent Games Festival Awards, where GameTap serves as a Platinum Sponsor, they will be selecting three winners for their "GameTap Indie Award." Those picked will have their games added to GameTap library, cash prizes and a distribution deal with GameTap for future games.

GameTap vice president Ricardo Sanchez commented on GameTap's support for small developers: "With GameTap Indies, we are giving developers and publishers the chance to put their game in front of an audience that otherwise might not see it. There is a lot of innovation happening in gaming today that can only thrive on the hard drives and computer screens of gamers because of the boundless broadband frontier. With GameTap's expansive reach and unique model, we will be able to offer forward thinking game designers a platform for success."
