Seventh Annual Game Developers Choice Awards

Epic Games and Microsoft Game Studios' Gears of War received top honors with three awards this year, including Best Game; Capcom's Okami and Nintendo's Wii Sports were tied for second place at two awards each.

The Game Developers Choice Awards are the only peer-based open nomination awards that are voted on by developers to reward exceptional developers. Nominations are free and open to all International Game Developers Association (IGDA) members.

The awards that were presented were as follows:

Best Game: Gears of War, Audio: Guitar Hero II, Character Design: Okami, Game Design: Wii Sports, Technology: Gears of War, Visual Arts: Gears of War, Writing: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, New Studio: Iron Lore Entertainment, who worked on Titan Quest, and Innovation: Line Rider, Okami, and Wii Sports.

The special awards for the evening were as follows:

Lifetime Achievement: Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, First Penguin: Alexey Pajitnov, the creator of Tetris, Maverick: Greg Costikyan, an independant game developer and science fiction writer, and Community Contribution: George "The Fat Man" Sanger, a video game composer
