Vicon launches FK Extreme Motion Capture System

| 8 Mar 2007 17:36

Motion Capture is the process of using cameras and sensors to "capture" real live movement and model it in a digital, 3D environment. Vicon today announced a low-cost version of their motion capture system, with a streamlined GUI, targeted at first-time and low-budget developers.

According to the press release, "The new FKextreme system is ideally suited to small to mid-sized game development and animation facilities and is great for capturing both in-game motions and cinematic sequences with up to two performers."

Only time will tell how affordable and effective the system really is for small-time developers, but putting higher-end technology, such as motion capture equipment, in the hands of small game studios could dramatically improve the visual work in non-major game titles.
