Codemasters has announced the development of an "action puzzler" game based on the hit movie Dirty Dancing, due to be released by the end of the year.

"Dirty Dancing is one of the most beloved movies of all time with millions of dedicated fans across the world," said Codemasters Online Gaming Vice President and General Manager David Solari. "Dirty Dancing - The Video Game will make the perfect Christmas present for fans of the movie, and we are thrilled to be able to bring this much loved film to the video game world."

The game, aimed squarely at the casual gaming market, will feature a series of mini-games based on the hit 1987 Patrick Swayze sweat-fest Dirty Dancing. According to the official website, players will work alongside the team at the Kellerman resort and earn camp dollars to purchase Dirty Dancing memorabilia, cabin furnishings and the "all-important dance lessons with Johnny and Penny."

Anne Parducci, executive vice president at Dirty Dancing distributor Lionsgate, said, "For two decades, girls and women have identified with Baby, and through this wonderful game from Codemasters, they will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in her world like never before."

The game's release in late 2007 is being timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the movie.
