Nintendo Sells 4.7 Million Games Through Virtual Console

| 1 Jun 2007 16:21

Mario and friends are collecting a lot of coin for Nintendo.

Nintendo has sold 4.7 million games through the Virtual Console, a section of the online Wii Shop which sells emulated versions of past Nintendo software titles, including favorites from the NES and SNES systems.

Unsurprisingly, Mario titles dominate the top sellers list:

1. Super Mario Bros. (NES)
2. Super Mario 64 (N64)
3. Mario Kart 64 (N64)
4. Super Mario World (SNES)
5. The Legend of Zelda (NES)

As noted by Ars Technica, rehashing these old Nintendo-owned titles nets Nintendo about $23 million from the Virtual Console if each of the games was sold at $5 - most cost more.
