| 6 Jul 2007 19:14

Britain's videogame market witnessed substantial growth in the first half of 2007, clocking in at a 42 percent increase year-on-year.

Sales for combined software, hardware and accessories totaled £1.5 billion, compared to £718 million in the same period in 2006.

The bulk of the sales is attributable to software, with the Nintendo DS hand-held software emerging as a clear comparative winner, having skyrocketed 164 percent.

In absolute terms, however, the Xbox 360 won out, generated £101 million sales - a 73 percent increase.

Consoles and related accessories also climbed significantly.
