PS2 Slim Gets Slimmer

| 10 Jul 2007 18:44

The latest batch of consoles may be garnering the glamorous attention at E3, but the classic and still potent-selling PlayStation 2 is also receiving some attention.

The PS2 Slim model has undergone a revision that makes it 300 grams lighter, bringing its total weight down from 900g to 600g. Similarly, the AC adapter has shed 100g.

While no external differences are apparent, internal modifications to the system enabled the lowered weight. The likely impetus behind such a change is a simplified manufacturing process(less internal parts), and lower shipping costs.

So far, the revised unit has appeared only in Japan.

Despite its age, the excellent catalog of games available for the PlayStation 2 makes it a still-popular budget console.
