PS3 Changes in Europe, US

| 13 Jul 2007 14:12

In an ironic confirmation of Microsoft official Peter Moore's assessment of the PS3 price-cut, Sony UK said the 60GB iteration of the PS3 will be quickly phased out as an 80GB replacement is rolled in at the same price point.

A PlayStation 3 "starter pack" will be made available starting July 18 in the UK. Other European countries will follow at the start of August. Two first party games and a second controller will be included, with the games varying by area.

In the US, however, the 60GB PS3 will be phased out altogether in favor of the 80GB model, which will not be made available in Europe.

SCEE President David Reeves commented today, "All they're doing is taking their stock in trade that they've got at the moment of the 60GB model, marking the price down and it will all be gone by the end of July."
