Microsoft Updates Dying HD-DVD Player

A last-ditch update for HD-DVD players helps support those who purchased the Xbox 360 extension.

Despite dropping the manufacturing of the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player in February, Microsoft has issued another downloadable upgrade for existing HD-DVD units.

The next time HD-DVD owners attempt to watch movies on their 360 and are logged into Xbox LIVE, an automatic update will install that improves video compatibility with certain titles and provides additional support for various network features.

For those without Xbox LIVE, the update will be made downloadable from Xbox.com and burnable to a DVD or CD.
