The Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack has set a record on Xbox Live Marketplace, surpassing one million paid downloads in only nine days.

Developed by Infinity Ward, the team behind Call of Duty 4, the Variety Map Pack includes four new multiplayer maps set in a variety of locations, and includes support for split-screen and system link play. Activision also announced that over 30 million sessions of the game, adding up to more than 32 million hours of gameplay, had been played over Xbox Live between April 4-12.

"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare delivers one of the best online multiplayer experiences ever," said Activision Senior Vice President Will Kassoy. "We are excited to be able to expand the that experience and deliver to fans a new variety of locations and environments which have all the intensity they have come to expect with Call of Duty."

"Infinity Ward is extremely grateful for support from our loyal Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare community around the world," added Robert Bowling, community relations manager at Infinity Ward. "From the beginning, we were committed to do our best and that continues now with the Variety Map Pack. We can't wait to get back online with everyone."

Released in November 2007 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, Call of Duty 4 went on to become the best-selling game of the year, with worldwide unit sales in excess of nine million. The Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Variety Map Pack is currently available exclusively via Xbox Live for 800 Microsoft Points; a PlayStation 3 version will be released on the PlayStation Network on April 24 for $9.99.
