PlayStation Store Adjusts Prices for Canadian Gamers

PlayStation 3 owners in Canada got some good news today with the announcement that Sony will be adjusting PlayStation Store prices to reflect the ongoing parity between the Canadian and U.S. dollars.

A blog post by PlayStation Store Senior Manager Grace Chen revealed the change, which will take place on May 1. "I am excited to let all of our Canadian gamers know that we will be adjusting prices for downloadable content available through the PlayStation store for the Canadian market as a result of the strengthening currency vs. the U.S. dollar," she wrote. "We'll be executing the adjustments in a phased approach prior to the regular PlayStation Store update on Thursday. On May 1, prices on all downloadable content should be updated."

Complaints about discrepancies in pricing between identical U.S. and Canadian products despite the equivalent values of their respective currencies have become common among Canadian gamers. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s the Canadian dollar was typically valued at between 65-75 cents U.S., but a rising demand for Canadian resources, couple with a tumbling U.S. economy, has drawn the exchange rate virtually even.
