The upcoming fantasy MMOG Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has attracted over a million sign-ups, Funcom announced today.

The developer said the numbers are an indication of the huge interest in the forthcoming game, and that it believes the mark represents a record for MMOG beta signups. "Funcom has not been able to find any higher beta numbers for MMOs in the western world," said Vice President of Sales and Marketing Morten Larssen. "We believe it represents the largest ever beta sign-up figure in the history of the genre."

Nearly 800,000 people have signed up for the game's newsletter, and the official Age of Conan website drew in 725,000 unique visitors and over 115,000 forum posts last week, further indications of high levels of interest. "How all of our strong figures convert into later sales and subscription figures is still unknown," Larssen said. "But our pre-order numbers in some important retail chains track as the highest for any MMO launched."

The Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures open beta began on May 1, following a series of delays which have seen the game's release pushed back numerous times since early 2007. The game is currently on target for a May 20 release in the U.S., while Europe will gain access on May 23. An Xbox 360 version is still in development and is slated to come out in 2009.
