Sony has displayed new media and event rooms in Home, its upcoming virtual world for the PlayStation 3.

A team of 10,000 testers were offered the chance to beta test Sony's Media and Events Space, a section of Home where Sony and advertisers can host virtual gatherings. Visitors were able to travel through a recreation of Sony's PlayStation Day held in London on May 6. Digital televisions featured guest speakers and trailers shown at the actual event.

Sony says that companies can host "everything from new game unveilings to sports events to fashion shows."

"As well as looking great, the Media and Events Space is flexible and user-friendly - it's a real focal point for our virtual community," said Home producer Martijn Van Der Meulen. "This was a very exciting first event and we've already received plenty of great feedback."
