Rapture Delayed

The Bioshock movie has been delayed following concerns about the budget.

Universal Pictures has delayed the start of filming on the Bioshock movie on hold, after balking at the proposed $160 million budget. The movie was due to begin shooting in Los Angeles, but the high costs involved have lead to the studio considering more affordable alternatives such as London. Director Gore Verbinski is currently in talks with Universal trying to get the budget to a more reasonable figure.

Verbinski, who turned down the opportunity to direct the fourth installment of Pirates of the Carribean to direct Bioshock, said: "We were asked by Universal to move the film outside the U.S. to take advantage of a tax credit. We are evaluating whether this is something we want to do. In the meantime, the film is in a holding pattern."

According to both Verbinski and sources at the studio, both parties are determined that the film will not become another Halo, which was cancelled by Universal and Fox over budgetary concerns, and sources at Universal are pointing out that this situation is no different than the delays in Ridley Scott's new Robin Hood movie, which began filming after being delayed by money negotiations.
