Rock Band is a rhythm game with a focus on rock music. It uses proprietary peripheral gamepads shaped like guitars, drum sets, and microphones. Gameplay consists of color-coded squares that indicate when each player should activate the button of the same color on their gamepad. Vocal participation via the microphone is measured by pitch, with the needed pitch represented by a scrolling green line. In addition to the multiplayer mode that allows players to cooperatively play in various virtual spaces, there is a single-player mode and a versus mode.
