Ruffian Games, the developer behind Crackdown 2, has been bought out by Rockstar. The studio has now been renamed to Rockstar Dundee. The developer was formally renamed to Rockstar Dundee on Oct. 6, but the name also popped up online on Sept. 28.
According to Kirk McKeand at TheGamer, Ruffian Games started working with Rockstar last year. Almost exactly a year ago, the Ruffian Games Twitter page mentioned that the studio was looking for engineers to work on unspecified titles for Rockstar. Developers at the studio had previously worked on Manhunt and Grand Theft Auto.
The hiring spree at Rockstar Dundee is most likely to prepare more production for the next generation of consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Grand Theft Auto V has already been confirmed to be coming to the next generation of consoles as well.
Along with Crackdown 2, Ruffian Games worked on the PvP component of Crackdown 3, the 5v5 Wrecking Zone multiplayer mode. The studio also worked on the Halo 3 and Halo 4 ports on Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Several Kinect titles, including Kinect Playfit and Kinect Star Wars, were co-developed by Ruffian Games too.
