The Apartment stars Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine and Fred MacMurray in a smart comedy about marital infidelity. If you really think about it this film was way ahead of its time, most movies didn’t even acknowledge the new year as it had been created, as a holiday, in 1945.

Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan meet up in this little film about two people trying to find love in a modern world called When Harry Met Sally. This was also the sequel to Harry and the Hendersons which was basically the same plot.

The Hudsucker Proxy, from the Coen Brothers, is all about children’s obsession with Hula Hoops and straws. Ya know, for the kids.

200 Cigarettes is a modern take on the New Year holiday. It’s all about twentysomethings as they do twentysomething things, so much original.

I know that most of the readers here love this film and that’s why it’s included. Bridget Jones’s Diary changed filmmaking as we knew it, they broke all of the rules with this production and the CGI was years ahead of its time. Oh wait I’m thinking of Jurassic Park.

About a Boy features Hugh Grant as he does his best job of looking like he’s constipated. He really should win some award from an IBS charity.

Poseidon is all about the downsides of boating while drinking. Just remember, if you’re captaining a cruise ship on New Years eve just don’t drink. It’s not that complicated.
