Activision-Blizzard has quietly restructured and shuffled its upper echelons, with some getting promoted and some losing their jobs all together.
There’s changes going on at Activision-Blizzard, as the company quietly organized itself into four separate units: one handling Call of Duty, one for internal properties like Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk and one for licensed games, with Blizzard Entertainment remaining its own discrete entity.
As part of the shake-up, Thomas Tippl was promoted to Chief Operating Officer, and now oversees Blizzard Boss Mike Morhaime and the head of Activison publishing, a currently vacant post that Tippl is filling temporarily.
There were also promotions and reassignments for Mike Griffith, who is now Vice-Chairman; David Oxford who now oversees all licensed games; Maria Stipp, who is now in charge of all licensed products except for CoD and WoW.
It wasn’t all good news however, as it was reported that around 15 people lost their jobs in the restructure, although exactly where those jobs were lost isn’t clear. “We realigned our structure to better reflect our slate and marketing opportunities and direct our resources against the largest most profitable business segments,” said spokeswoman Maryanne Lataif.
