All Mercenaries in Diablo 4, Ranked

Here's a brief rundown of the four different Mercenaries you'll find in Diablo 4, and are ranked based on their efficiency.

Mercenaries in Diablo 4 are support characters that you can bring along with you on your adventures across Sanctuary. Introduced with the Vessel of Hatred update, these characters come with different skills and abilities that make taking down monsters less tedious than usual.

To unlock these mercenaries, you’ll have to complete their questlines first. Once you’ve recruited them, you’ll be able to customize their skills and abilities to complement your playstyle.

Ranking All Mercenaries in Diablo 4

So far, there are only four mercenaries that you will find at your hideout in Nahantu, provided you’ve unlocked all of them:

  • Raheir
  • Varyana
  • Subo
  • Aldkin

4) Aldkin

Aldkin, the demon child, is an amazing mercenary to have, if he didn’t come with certain curses that act as a debuff for you when he’s in his demon form. Although there’s a choice here, you’ll either get the Curse of Darkness, which makes both you and your enemies vulnerable, or the Curse of Flames, where you lose 10% Resource every second. There are ways to mitigate the latter through builds, but that’s just an extra headache that adds to unnecessary build complexity.

3) Varyana

Just like Aldkin, even Varyana has the potential to be a wonderful support character if she had good DPS output. Her passive grants you mobility, which is a good thing in lower levels, but as you make your way to Torment 1 and higher, that bonus isn’t enough, and you’ll already be getting enough from your build anyway. Her damage output isn’t that great either, making her a poor choice for the late game in Diablo 4.

2) Subo

While Subo is a decent support character, especially during combat, his utility lies in the fact that he can mark all enemies and resources in your close vicinity. This comes in handy when you’re running around slaughtering demons in the Helltide. He’s also got some amazing crowd control skills in the Wire Trap skill tree, which makes him an indispensable ally in The Pit

1) Raheir

Raheir is the first mercenary you get to unlock through the Vessel of Hatred campaign, but is the best of the lot. He provides damage reduction, knocks back and stuns the enemy, and makes you Unstoppable for a short duration, and that’s just the start. His utility kit outclasses the rest of the mercenaries by a mile, making him the best choice, irrespective of the build that you choose to play.

Can You Use Multiple Mercenaries in Diablo 4?

Yes, you can use two mercenaries at the same time. While one is your primary mercenary and will roam around with you the entire time, the other one will just appear whenever you perform a particular action.

You can set what skill will trigger their arrival, but they’re there for a short period and then receive a cooldown. Once the cooldown has ended, whenever you use the set skill again, your support mercenary will arrive. Although the damage that the support mercenary does isn’t that great, sometimes it comes in handy when you’re dealing with large mobs of enemies.
