It's human nature to remember the negative more than the positive which is why we always enjoy debating the terrible leaders of our time. But we can't forget that we also had some incredible people who made a difference in our lives. Here are eight of those folks who we wish were still around.

Nelson Mandela (1918-2013)

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

Nelson Mandela was a South African political activist who spent over 20 years in prison for opposing the apartheid regime. He was finally released in 1990 and four years later was later elected the first leader of a democratic South Africa. In 1993, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in helping to end the racial divide in South Africa. He is considered the father of a democratic South Africa and seen as an inspirational figurehead for his ability to bring together a previously racially divided nation.
