Batman’s Getting A (Fan-Made) 2D Fighter

This article is over 13 years old and may contain outdated information

The Dark Knight is getting the 2D fighter treatment from some very talented amateurs, and initial footage looks great.

Bruce Wayne’s having a good run when it comes to videogames these days, and it looks like the trend is going to continue thanks to Arkham City and Gotham City Imposters. However, footage of a new fan-made game is showing just how amazing the character would look if he got some 2D fighting treatment.

Batman: Gotham Knights is one of those fighters built on the M.U.G.E.N. engine, but it looks absolutely fantastic. As you can see from this YouTube video so far, there’s an impressive lineup of selectable characters, including a large number of his rogues gallery, various members of the Justice League, and some random allies.

So far, the only real footage that’s been released is the character selection portion of the game. But, admittedly, the visual style already looks lovely with unique designs and great use of colors. That said, I’m a little disappointed that neither Batgirls nor Jean Paul Valley (as either Azrael or Batman) are selectable characters. Are there any other characters you’d like to see in the final build of the game?
