Best Races to Start With in The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered

Here are all the races that you can choose from in The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered, and the best ones to start with.

When starting your journey in The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered, you’ll be given the choice of multiple races to choose from. Your choice of race will determine the playstyle and your primary attributes that you get to adopt while traversing through Cyrodiil.

It’s important to note that there isn’t a best race in particular in Oblivion Remastered, but some races come with a more lenient learning curve and are best for beginners to use while starting their journey.

Best Starting Races And Origins in The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered

The following are the best races and offer a strong middle ground, enough to give you a decent experience, while ensuring that you have the necessary tools to clear out whatever mission is thrown at you:

  • Breton with Systres background
  • High Elf with Auridon background
  • Redguard with Dragontail Mountains background

Breton (Systres)

If you’re not really sure what build to go into, then the Breton is the best one for you. It gets good stats on Intelligence, Willpower and Magicka Bonus for a good mage build, but it also has decent Strength and almost perfect Luck, which makes the character a perfect jack of all trades. Yes you’ll have to compromise a bit on Speed and Endurance, but that tradeoff won’t bother you too much.

High Elf (Auridon)

If you’re looking to make a mage build, then the High Elf is the best one for you right off the bat. The bonus 100 Magicka that you gain contributes significantly towards this. However, you’re also more vulnerable to shock, fire, and frost damage, so mage fights might be a bit difficult. That aside, it’s still a pretty solid pick if you’re looking to get into spellcrafting.

Redguard (Dragontail Mountains)

Being a Redguard means you’re bound to be proficient with a lot of different types of weapons and armor. Go for this race if you don’t like spellcrafting or you’re looking for a weapon-based melee/ranged class. This race is naturally resistant to poison, which makes it a strong class for beginners who are just learning the ropes of how buildcrafting works.

Is It Possible to Change Races midway through Oblivion Remastered Story?

No, once you’ve started your journey, you will not be allowed to change your race. However, PC players can do so by using console commands. Although it’s the only method to change your race later on, it’s still cheating, and will disable your achievements for the rest of the run.
